|- Irvine needs to restore ethical leadership. We look for clarity and accountability from our city government. Instead, we find misdirection, questionable ethics, and disregard for resident concerns. This must end.
- Leadership begins with listening. From inadequate shade structures in our parks and playgrounds to asphalt plant pollution; piecemeal planning and insufficient retail in the Great Park; to high electricity rates without adequate notification from the scandal-ridden OC Power Authority. We need to prioritize the residents of this city and make it easier for members of the public to participate and to work on their concerns.
- Irvine was once an environmental leader. Now, we have fallen behind on achieving our carbon neutral goals and refuse to get the qualified leadership needed on the OC Power Authority. Irvine needs a Climate Action Plan. I will set deadlines for deliverables, ensure city staff has all the resources they need, and provide updates for the public along the way.
Irvine has attracted world class companies in healthcare, gaming, and biotech industries. Businesses depend on good infrastructure and quality of life to attract employees. Housing is essential for economic development. We need to make sure that development maintains carbon neutral goals.
Moreover, among the 16 largest cities in California, Irvine is the only one still using at-large elections and is the largest city in California to only have 5 Councilmembers. Irvine needs to switch to district elections and expand the size of the City Council to increase representation.
Regarding transparency and public participation, Irvine needs to:
- Ban cellphones from the dais
- Strengthen the city's recusal policy
- Move closed session items to the end of the City Council meeting
- Switch back to simultaneous voting and end the rollcall voting
