Brandon Nixon was born and raised in Elyria, Ohio. He earned his diploma from Elyria High School and Lorain County JVS and attended some college. Brandon is married, a proud father of seven, and has also been a foster father for over twenty years, providing love and guidance to children in need.

A founding member of Ambassador Brothers of Lorain County, Brandon has long been dedicated to community service and leadership. He served as a union steward with SEIU 1199, where he advocated for workers’ rights, and as a member of the Kennedy Heights Community Council, serving his community for three years. He also served on the Board of Parks and Recreation in Elyria for two years.

Now residing in Cincinnati’s Westwood neighborhood, Brandon is committed to building stronger communities, safer streets, and a City Council that truly listens to its people.
  • Public Safety: I am committed to making our neighborhoods safer for families, children, and seniors. By working with law enforcement, community leaders, and residents, we can reduce crime, improve street lighting, address traffic safety, and ensure that everyone feels secure in their homes and on our streets. Safety is the foundation of a strong, thriving community.
  • Second Key Message – Community Engagement: I believe strong communities are built when residents have a voice. I will work to ensure open communication, listen to concerns, and bring people together across neighborhoods to solve problems, strengthen connections, and foster a sense of pride and unity in our city.
  • Third Key Message – City Services & Accountability: I am committed to improving city services and ensuring accountability in government. From parks and recreation to infrastructure and public resources, I will work to make city programs more efficient, transparent, and responsive to the needs of every resident.
I am passionate about public safety, working to ensure our neighborhoods are safe for families, children, and seniors by collaborating with law enforcement, community leaders, and residents. I care deeply about community development, strengthening neighborhoods through programs, resources, and engagement that empower residents to take pride in where they live. I am also committed to accountable city government, improving services to be transparent, efficient, and responsive to the needs of every citizen. Together, these priorities create stronger, safer, and more connected communities.
My parents I look up to my parents, who set an example of hard work, integrity, and love for family and community. They taught me the value of responsibility, compassion, and perseverance, showing me that success is measured not just by personal achievement but by how much you give back and support those around you. Their example inspires me every day to lead with honesty, serve others, and make a positive impact in my community.
The most important characteristics for an elected official are integrity, accountability, and transparency. I believe leaders must act with honesty in every decision, putting the needs of the community above personal or political gain. They must be accessible and willing to listen, engaging with residents, neighbors, and local organizations to ensure that all voices are heard and represented.

An effective leader must also be fair, courageous, and consistent, making choices based on facts and the common good while standing firm in their convictions. They should demonstrate empathy and understanding, recognizing the unique challenges faced by families, seniors, and young people, and working to create policies that promote safety, opportunity, and equality for all.

Equally important is accountability in government. An elected official must ensure that programs and services are transparent, effective, and responsive to the people they serve. By keeping the community informed and engaged, leaders build trust and empower residents to participate in shaping their neighborhoods.

I am committed to being that kind of leader someone who listens, acts with integrity, and works tirelessly to strengthen neighborhoods, improve public safety, and ensure that Cincinnati’s government serves every citizen fairly and effectively. Together, we can build stronger, safer, and more united communities.
The core responsibilities of someone elected to City Council are to serve, represent, and lead with integrity. At the heart of this office is the duty to listen to constituents, understand their concerns, and ensure their voices are reflected in every decision. An effective council member engages consistently with neighborhoods, community organizations, and residents to address the issues that affect daily life, from public safety and housing to infrastructure and city services.

City Council members are also responsible for making informed, fair, and transparent policy decisions that strengthen communities and improve quality of life. This includes crafting legislation and programs that prioritize safety, economic opportunity, and equity while ensuring resources are used efficiently for the benefit of all residents.

Equally important is holding government accountable and maintaining transparency. Residents deserve clear communication about how decisions are made, how funds are allocated, and progress on community initiatives. By fostering trust and open dialogue, elected officials empower citizens to engage and participate in shaping their city.

Finally, City Council members must lead with collaboration and vision, working across political lines and with local organizations to achieve meaningful results. By combining integrity, action, and responsiveness, an elected official can create safer streets, stronger neighborhoods, and a city government that truly serves the people.
I want to leave a legacy of stronger, safer, and more connected communities. I hope people remember me as someone who listened to their concerns, fought for families, and worked tirelessly to improve neighborhoods. I want to be known for building trust between residents and government, creating opportunities for youth, and helping ensure that every citizen feels valued, heard, and empowered. Above all, I want my work to inspire others to step up and serve their communities with integrity and compassion
The first historical event I clearly remember was the September 11th attacks in 2001. I was in my early twenties at the time, and it left a deep impression on me. Seeing how the country came together afterward taught me about unity, resilience, and the importance of strong communities in times of crisis values that continue to shape how I view leadership and public service today.
My very first job was as a paperboy at age ten, a position I held for several years. Delivering papers taught me the value of hard work, responsibility, and consistency at an early age. It gave me a sense of independence and showed me how dedication and commitment, even to small tasks, can make a real difference in life and in the community.
One of my favorite books is “The Bible” because it provides guidance, wisdom, and a moral compass for everyday life. Its lessons on integrity, compassion, and leadership have shaped who I am personally and how I serve my community. The principles I’ve learned from it such as caring for others, standing for justice, and leading with humility guide my decisions and inspire me to make a positive impact in the lives of those around me.
If I could be any fictional character, I’d choose Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird. He represents integrity, courage, and fairness standing up for what’s right even when it’s difficult. His commitment to justice and compassion reflects the values I try to live by in my own life and leadership.
One of the biggest struggles in my life has been balancing family responsibilities with community service. As a husband, father of seven, and foster father for over twenty years, I’ve had to work hard to make sure my family always comes first while still serving my community and standing up for others. That struggle taught me discipline, patience, and the importance of keeping your values at the center of everything you do.
One story that has stayed with me is from a parent in my neighborhood who shared their fear every time their children played outside because of speeding cars on local streets. They spoke about the sleepless nights worrying for their kids’ safety and the frustration of feeling unheard by city officials. That story reminded me why public safety is so important, and it strengthened my commitment to ensuring our neighborhoods are safe, our streets are secure, and families can live without fear.
One accomplishment I’m most proud of is serving as a foster father for over twenty years, providing love, guidance, and stability to children in need. Beyond my family, I have also been deeply involved in my communityas a founding member of Ambassador Brothers of Lorain County, a union steward with SEIU 1199, and a member of the Kennedy Heights Community Council and Elyria Board of Parks and Recreation. These experiences have allowed me to make a tangible difference in people’s lives, advocate for others, and strengthen the communities I serve.
