Brandy, an Ohio native, was born in Columbus, Ohio. Her early life was spent growing up in the once rural suburban farming community in Pataskala, Ohio. Having this fortunate experience built the person she is today and the values that she holds dear. She graduated from Watkins Memorial High School and went onto to study for another year at Ohio University in Lancaster, Ohio.
After paying cash for a year of college education Brandy decided to enter the work force instead of going into debt to finish that college education. She has worked in the service industry in food service, banking, and the local entertainment industry. Brandy served as secretary of the Mid-Ohio Filmmaker’s Association from 2011-2012. She is currently serving on the board of Tamarack Condominiums Condo Association since August of 2020.
Brandy’s goal in the Ohio Statehouse is to bring back a more moderate approach in Ohio’s Legislature because she believes divisive politics is what is preventing Ohio District 9 from moving forward and revitalizing the community. She believes in protecting our Constitution and the powers it ensures the people have.
- Building a strong community together.
- Voter voice and voter choice matters.
- If we don't choose to get involved, we can't expect our government to work for us.
Strong educational opportunities for our youth are very important in shaping our society. The way we choose to allow our children to become educated is a reflection of our successes or failures as a state and a nation. Ohio and many other states have lost track of this in many ways and we are no longer producing functional productive citizens.
Instead we are plagued with broken families, broken communities, and broken banks. People are in the midst of very difficult day-to-day struggles in all of society due to out-of-control inflationary policy at the Federal Government level. States need to become more self-sufficient again and stop relying on so much Federal government support. Regaining sovereignty is key to our future.
I don't really look up to people anymore. I've reached a place in life where I realize looking outside is no longer useful. Looking within to the person I have become from all of those who have influenced me in the past.
Schindler's List is the movie that opened my mind to the idea of why the second amendment exists within the Federal Constitution. Those people did not have the luxury of defending themselves from the political climate of the time in Europe.
Integrity and accountability to the people in their districts they are tasked to represent.
I am a communicator and someone who can listen to the concerns of others. When necessary I can be a diplomat when the need arises. Strangely directing and producing short film productions tests those abilities.
Decisions in the Ohio Legislature should be based on what the state constitution prescribes rather than special international political interests.
I would like to help to restore a self-sufficient state government in the long run that allows for a strong self-sustaining society. State government should not be so dependent on Federal government that it allows itself to be overrun by it.
Ronald Reagan's speech about the dangers of the Soviet Union and the U.S. not tamping back their nuclear weapons. The Barry Seal story, Iran Contra Affair, Chernobyl, and the Challenger explosion.
I worked at United Dairy Farmer's when I was 16 years old. My time there was serving ice cream, stocking, front facing, and being a cashier for 18 months. We all have to start somewhere.
Hiding in Plain Sight is a book that I read while researching for a screenplay that I wanted to write at one time. It is the story of Betty Lauer, a 12-year-old Jewish girl who lived in Germany in 1938. I've read the book at least 4 or 5 times. It is a very human story. Eyes will be opened to the dangers of a tyrannical government when they read Betty's story. Betty endured a lot of tragedy in her life at a very early age. It led me on a journey to Poland where I visited Auschwitz and many other places where human beings were treated in the worst ways imaginable.
If I could be a fictional character I would be Gabrielle the Bard of Podedia from Xena Warrior Princess. For a time in my life that was the essence of who I was.
Mama Cass, "Make your own kind of music."
Balancing art with the responsibilities of life. I am an artist at heart, but there is much more to life that the desire for self-expression.
It should be a balance of power and mutual respect between the two entities.
Ohio's greatest challenges will be in shifting from a Federally funded budget to a locally funded budget. I think this will be the case with all states with what is in store for the national future.
It isn't beneficial. In fact, we need to get away from career politics and get into the mind set of serving the public instead of the big corporation and international banking interests.
Yes. Just because views are different doesn't mean a middle ground can't be found. Nothing changes overnight. Things change over time. Our government was intentionally designed to make it difficult to make sweeping changes over night. The founders knew what they were doing when the created our Constitutional Republic. Often times people mistake America's true identity falsely believing it to be a Democracy.
Ron Paul is someone I have studied and I appreciate his views and his approach to being in the Federal House of Representatives. He is, in my mind, the man who brought forth Libertarian views into the public awareness of today. I am also in favor of a more moderate type of politics that was once popular back in the 80's and 90's. Someone who was one of the last moderate Republicans to serve in our Federal House of Representatives was Cynthia McKinney. I also believe when looking at the Democrat side Dennis Kucinich was one whose career I followed. All of these people have their positive qualities and were great leaders and contributors in their time while serving.
Perhaps, but in the current moment there is a need to re-engage the public in District 9 and in many other districts in the Ohio Franklin county area. Our local government is broken when nearly the entire county has candidates that are running unopposed at state and local levels in the general elections in recent years.
While petitioning to get onto the ballot as an Independent Candidate I spoke to a woman whose concern was abortion. She told me that when she was a young woman she had become unexpectedly with child. This person stated that at that time she didn't feel she wanted the pregnancy because she had so many other things going on in her life at that time. She was also terrified of how her parents would react to the news. Then she decided to terminate the pregnancy. She went down to the abortion clinic and they were nearly ready to do the procedure when she heard the baby's heartbeat for the first time. She inquired the staff about it they reluctantly admitted that it was the baby's heartbeat that she was hearing on the equipment. Despite this woman believing that she should have the right to choose to terminate the pregnancy, and being fearful of her parents, it was the baby's heartbeat the changed her mind. She now has a bright successful young adult son she would not trade.
I'm not big on jokes. I can share a personal favorite tv show quote that I find to be comical. "So today is actually yesterday for you, but for us today is today because yesterday was today for you, right?"
This question is a bit vague. What kind of emergency powers are we speaking of granting? Who would we be granting those powers to and for what purpose?
Being that I am running on education for our children one of the first places we need to start is at home. Something that is plaguing young people today is broken divorced families. I am not against divorce in the right context because I also come from divorced parents and a split family. However, in today's world there seems to be quite a bit of abuse of the child support system by primary guardian parents. Many of them are using their children as atm machines rather than using the child support funds for their intended purposes. This is a huge factor I have discovered in the development of our youth as productive members of our society. If children are not being properly cared for at home in the modern family environment then how can we expect a functional society on down the road? Sadly, we have come to a place where it is time to crack down on deadbeat primary custodians abusing the system. It may be time to audit child support ensuring that funds are being allocated to the proper place within these severed family units. A child cannot come to school hungry, and sleep deprived and be expected to function as a participating productive student. This common scenario creates youth hooked on various substance abuse, school drop-outs, and suicidal youth. None of these scenarios build a strong future or community for anyone. These scenarios build more dependence upon a government that is currently bankrupt. Today's illusion of an endless money pit will end at some point in the future. When that happens there will be a lot of dependent citizens and no ability to sustain their needs within a failed system.
Education, Budget and Finance, as well as natural resources and Agriculture. Health freedom is also something that interests me especially when considering the way that the Covid crisis period was handled.
Government spending must be transparent to the public. Especially when the public is taxed higher and higher each election cycle. Something isn't right when budgets seemingly can't be balanced. The average citizen has to balance the books. Our government should not get a free pass to be secretive in the way that it spends tax money.
