When asked, "If elected, what would you do to bring economic improvement to the rural communities in your district?" the candidate said the following:
“ |
I’ve actually worked on legislation on this very topic and the question is about how we can do things in rural areas, just not for the country as a whole. I worked on the Washington Jobs Act of 2014 because I’m a huge proponent of equity job funding. The middle class has not gotten a raise since the 1980s. All of the wealth aggregates to the top. First to the cities, then to the millionaires, then to the 1 percent. So we need ways for communities to invest in themselves. Equity crowdfunding enables that to happen because if someone wants to open a new bar or restaurant or create a new job or buy equipment for their farm, people can do that thing and then they benefit from the wealth that’s created. So you keep the wealth in the community, you keep the jobs in the community, and if we want a system of government that’s going to build rural areas, we can’t just attack the federal legislation.”[1] |
