Two of the seven seats on the Brazosport Independent School District board of trustees were up for by-district general election on May 7, 2016. District 4 incumbent George Sullivan did not seek re-election. Troy Brimage defeated Edward Garcia in the race to replace Sullivan. District 5 incumbent Joe Silvas was defeated by challenger Michael Speir in the election. There was no primary. [1]

Voter and candidate information

The Brazosport ISD Board of Trustees is composed of seven members who are elected by district to three-year terms in specifically numbered seats. Candidates file to run for a specific seat, but all voters in the school district are eligible to vote for every seat up for election. Districts 4, 5 and 6 were scheduled for general election on May 7, 2016. There was no primary election.[2]

Candidates running for the school board must be a United States citizen, a resident of Texas for at least 12 months and a resident of the district for at least six months. Candidates must also be 18 years of age or older and registered to vote.[2]
