I am a retired journalism/English teacher who is not ready to give up on public education. A communications graduate from the University of Texas at Arlington, I entered the classroom after years in the private sector. I will bring a unique perspective to the Board of Education having a business and classroom background.
  • I want to be the voice for rural teachers and students.
  • I want a moratorium on future charter school licenses.
  • I want to add environment policies to science and agricultural curriculum.
The State Board of Education sets the curriculum standards for all Texas public schools. The textbook content established by the board is a standard used across the country.
I admire educators who go above and beyond for their students. I aspire to be the caring individual my high school English teacher, Mrs Evelyn Ganaway was. She encouraged me to be true to myself and to never stop learning.
Not really. My political philosophy is just putting all people before any political gain. I think if we learn to view everyone equally then we are going what we were elected to do.
Honesty and a willingness to work for the benefit of all citizens not just those affiliated to a certain political party.
I have an education background as well as a professional background in business and journalism. My education background will be beneficial for implementing programs for the classroom, my business background will help me understand the business side of the educational process and my journalism background will help me to look at more than one side of an issue.
I believe the core responsibility is to represent Texas students and teachers to the best of my ability.
I would hope that my students will remember me as the educator that always had their best interests at heart and I would like to be remember as the person who never gave up on public education.
My favorite book is New Passages by Gail Sheehy because I had reached a point in my life where I was feeling useless. I was having a major empty nest crises. The book encouraged me to continue my dreams and to return to school to finish my degree.
I would be Phoebe Tyler from the former soap opera All My Children. She always had the best interest of her family and community even when some doubted her.
No, I don't think previous experience in government or politics is a requirement for this position. I do think a background in education is essential to understand what classroom teachers need.
An education background is essential for this office. How can an officeholder know what is needed if they have never taught in a classroom setting?
