I’m a common-sense conservative who retired after a successful corporate career. I’m looking forward to working full-time to provide visible service and accountability to the residents of North Wilmington. I’m trained as an engineer and have experience managing in large organizations and handling large budgets.

I’ve been married for 35 years, a member of this community for 34 years and my wife, Carole, and I have 2 adult daughters and 3 grandchildren.

I’m active in my church and community with a history of stepping into leadership roles when that is called for. I have the ability to work well with a broad range of personalities and skill sets.
  • We need to bring greater accountability and balance to the actions of our General Assembly. The current state of our legislature - essentially single-party rule - is unhealthy for our state and is leading to increasingly extreme actions that are detrimental to our state.
  • Our education system is broken. While we spend among the top 10 states, our children’s performance currently ranks 46th. I place responsibility for this on an ineffective and burdensome administration. We need to focus funds on recruiting and retaining the very best teachers and holding the local school leadership accountable for tailoring their processes to the local needs of their student population. Principals need both authority and accountability to make meaningful change. The current state of our education system is driving good businesses out of Delaware and preventing businesses from bringing their operations - and families - to Delaware.
  • We need to rein in spending at the state level. State budgets have grown dramatically in recent years - fueled by COVID funds that have all but dried up. Spending has increased by nearly 10%/yr, yet our future projections show a slowing of future revenue. The actions of the General Assembly and Governor have ignored the reality that past actions are slowing our growth and failing our citizens. Delaware was the only state to show negative growth in their economy last year. While we had dramatic surpluses in recent years, they were spent. All efforts to constrain spending and/or provide tax relief were consistently bottled up in committees by the majority party. That reinforces the need for greater balance and responsiveness.
I believe the role of our General Assembly members should be to be visible, accessible and transparent in their legislative actions. We are here to serve and represent the needs and interests of our constituents, not to implement some broader political agenda. We are here to do things FOR people, not do things TO people. I see too many legislators that seem to be driving an agenda - often “copying & pasting” from actions taken in other states.
Elected officials need to be accessible and responsive to their constituents. They should be honest and transparent in their behaviors, action and decisions.
I am analytical by nature, yet compassionate. I have experience working with a broad range of people in collaborative environments - whether as a team leader or member.
This is clearly a role that calls for “servant leaders.” We must be prepared to seek out the values and priorities of those that we seek to represent.
Emergency powers enable the Executive to respond when there is an essential need for urgency. However, extended use of these powers must be overseen and constrained by those governed through their representatives (Reps & Senators).
