Campaign themes
2016
Mayes' campaign website highlighted the following issues:
“ |
The Border: We can do much with simple things that cost little or nothing. We can eliminate sanctuary cities, have mandatory e-verify, stop in-state tuition for illegals, and cut off all non emergency social services for those here illegally. These are the least we can do as first steps. Freedom: Four areas are of particular concern:
Limited Government : Though government growth is too pervasive to be rightly addressed here, here are a few other examples of what we should do: The margin tax should be eliminated and Texas must remain state income tax free. Special purpose districts should be financially transparent, the right of imminent domain curtailed, and over criminalization rolled back. As your senator I will fight government growth and over-reach not only in these areas but wherever it appears. The Sanctity of Life : As your senator I will advocate for the sanctity of life and against any measures that violate it to the slightest degree. Water : As your senator I will make water a high priority. I’ll oppose over-regulation and outside takings of water and defend water owner’s property rights.[2] |
