With no declared candidate running in the primary, Schorfheide was selected by the Democratic state committee, and was due to face incumbent Republican Mike Bost and Green Party challenger Charlie Howe in the November 2 general election. He withdrew from the ballot on July 2, 2010 following Green allegations that he obtained some of the 500 required signatures necessary for ballot status before he was officially selected.[2][3]
