Elections

Voter and candidate information

The Brentwood Union Board of Education consists of seven members elected to three-year terms. Each seat is elected by a specific geographic district that aligns with the district's elementary school attendance areas. These seats do not have titles, but they are considered distinct from one another. Ballotpedia has assigned generic titles to all seven seats on the board to prevent confusion. These seat titles are arbitrary and do not reflect the status or seniority of the board members holding them. Board members are elected on a staggered basis every year in May. Two seats were up for election in 2016. There was no primary election, and the general election was held on May 17, 2016.[2][3][4]

School board candidates had to be at least 18 years old, qualified voters of the district and residents of the district for at least one year prior to the election. They also had to be able to read and write and could not be employees of the school district.[5] To get on the ballot, candidates had to file nominating petitions to the district clerk by 5 p.m. on April 18, 2015.[2]
