Bria Bennett is a community organizer who is focused on amplifying the voices of her district. She is running to represent District 64’s fight to bring back quality jobs and business opportunities, improve access to basic needs such as quality grocery stores, and innovate and increase our healthcare services. Having successfully sued the Ohio Redistricting Commission, she is on the front lines of the fight for voter rights and fair elections. She believes it is critical for our elections to be fair and for voters to choose their representatives, not the other way around. Bria has worked with various community organizations to bring about neighborhood revitalization, tackle health equity, improve our educational system, and fight racial disparity. Working with these organizations have given her the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life and to understand the unique challenges and opportunities in District 64. She is serving her community as the Vice President of the Trumbull County Young Democrats and Deputy Communications Director of the Ohio Young Democrats.
  • When the GOP-led Ohio Redistricting Commission produced grossly gerrymandered maps, I sued them in the Supreme Court of Ohio, and I won. There is no room for party loyalty when it comes to redistricting and fair elections. The people should pick their representatives not the other way around. The redrawing of our districts will affect our minimum wage, how much we pay at the pump, taxes, and what are our kids are taught at school. Enough is enough of party politics shaping our elections. Once elected, I plan to not only push back the Republican attacks on voting rights, I plan to be proactive by sponsoring a Same Day Voter Registration bill.
  • If we want The Mahoning Valley to be ready for the jobs of the future, we must prepare now. We can start by educating high school students and college graduates about the opportunities that exist and by introducing on-the-job coaching, training, and development to fortify our workforce as we go. TechCred helps Ohioans learn new skills and strengthened our workforce in the tech industry. This training takes less than a year to complete and will prepare current and future employees for this industry. Together we will fight to pass the Ohio Fairness Act to ensure that no Ohioan is open to discrimination in the workplace. Our residents need an opportunity to earn a livable wage and to feel safe and protected while doing so.
  • Republicans at the Statehouse continue to build roadblocks to the energy of the future. It’s time to take advantage of this opportunity and invest in clean alternatives to fossil fuels. Installing and servicing solar arrays and turbine farms could be a leading industry in our state, which is prime for over $80 billion of renewable energy investment. We need to fund our high schools and technical schools to provide the training that our future generations need to land these high paying jobs. I will work with our high schools and colleges to get our next generation ready for careers in clean energy.
Our population of our older adults is expected to increase over the decades to come. We have the chance to improve the quality of aging starting now. Caregivers, STNAs and HHAs are underpaid and overworked. We need to incentivize the companies that hire in this industry and pay their employees what they deserve and regulate their workload. Once elected, I will continue to chip away at the teeth of big pharma. I am committed to sponsoring and voting for legislation that will ensure our public health system is working for us and not against us.

Safety and accessibility are linked and we need one to have the other. It’s time for the state to step in and fill this void. Our sidewalks should be moved to be in the public domain so that sidewalks are treated with equal importance to roads. Our sidewalks are a critical piece of infrastructure that are too often overlooked when it comes to repairs and maintenance.
Once elected, I will begin support legislation and research into our sidewalk system so the dollars that fix our roads are the dollars that fix our sidewalks. Thousands of Trumbull County residents experience food insecurity especially those who live in minority communities and rural areas. Children, older adults, and residents with disabilities are particularly vulnerable.

I will fight alongside organizations on the front lines who are looking to address food insecurity issues that impact and burden our communities.
The first historical event that happened in my lifetime I remember was the terrorist attack on September 11th when the World Trace Centers were destroyed. I was 7 years of age at the time and in 2nd Grade. I distinctly remember all of the adults being in shock and awe. Shortly thereafter, we were sent home early from school. The event that is written about in history books is a memory in my lifetime.
