Brian Buerke is an at-large member of the Reading Board of Directors in Pennsylvania. The seat was up for general election on November 3, 2015. There was a primary election on May 19, 2015. He filed to run in both the Democratic and Republican primaries. Buerke won nominations in both primaries and advanced to the general election.[1][2] Brian Buerke won the general election on November 3, 2015.

Buerke, along with Bernardo Carbajal, Abraham J. Cepeda, Julio Martinez, Jean Kelleher and David McCoy, ran as a member of the Better Schools Team.[3]

Buerke is an associate professor of physics at Albright College. He earned a bachelor's degree in physics from Villanova University. He went on to obtain a master's degree at Miami University and a doctorate degree at the University of Rochester.[4]

Six of the nine seats on the Reading Board of Directors were up for general election on November 3, 2015. There was a primary election on May 19, 2015.

Incumbents Bernardo Carbajal and Abraham J. Cepeda won re-election to their seats. Challengers Julio Martinez, Brian Buerke and Jean Kelleher also joined the board for four-year terms. They defeated Lydia Colon, Elijah Rhodes and William Cinfici. David McCoy won a two-year term without opposition after defeating Virna Quinones in the primary election. No independent candidates filed to run in the general election.[5][1][2]

Funding

The Better Schools Team, made up of Buerke, Carbajal, Cepeda, Kelleher, Martinez and McCoy, received $43,000 in contributions from the Alliance for Quality Education in Reading Political Action Committee (PAC). The joint campaign spent approximately $37,000 during the primary election.[6]
