Brian C. Edwards is a judge of the Kentucky 30th Circuit Court 11th Division. His current term ends on January 6, 2031.

Edwards ran for re-election for judge of the Kentucky 30th Circuit Court 11th Division. He won in the general election on November 8, 2022.

Biography

Education

Edwards received his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in 1992 and his J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1996.[1]

Career

Before he became a judge, Edwards worked as an attorney in private practice for thirteen years, specializing in criminal and civil litigation. He has also previously served as an assistant professor and associate director for the Center for the Study of Crime and Justice in Black Communities at the University of Louisville.[1]

Edwards ran for re-election to the 30th Judicial Circuit.
General: He was unopposed in the general election on November 4, 2014. [2] 

2010

Edwards was elected to the 30th Judicial Circuit. He defeated challenger John J. Vandertoll with 50.17 percent of the vote on November 2, 2010.[3][4]

In a statement to the Courier-Journal, Edwards explained his vision for the court, saying, "My experience presiding over cases for the past fourteen months, speaking with law enforcement officers and to community groups, working as a trial attorney, and teaching and doing research at the University of Louisville have given me an appreciation for the complexities of crime and the collateral consequences of the manner in which our justice system addresses issues of crime. We need Judges who appreciate these complexities, who are committed to protecting our community, and who will be open to collaborative and creative approaches to making our community a safer place to live for all."
