Lambert ran for re-election to the Fifth Circuit Court.
As an unopposed candidate, he was automatically re-elected without appearing on the ballot.Because Lambert was no longer serving on the circuit court at the time of his re-election, the seat remained vacant. In Florida, such vacancies are filled by gubernatorial appointment with help from a judicial nominating commission, and after at least one year of service the appointee must run for retention.[9]
