Brian Gaines
Brian Gaines (Democratic Party) is the acting South Carolina Comptroller General. He assumed office on May 12, 2023.
Gov. Henry McMaster (R) appointed Gaines to South Carolina Comptroller General on May 12, 2023, to replace Richard Eckstrom (R).
Biography
Prior to his appointment as South Carolina Comptroller General, Gaines worked for South Carolina’s state government from 2007 to 2023. After working within the South Carolina South Carolina Department of Administration and South Carolina Budget and Control Board from 2007 to 2016, Gaines was appointed State Budget Director on January 1, 2017. [1]
Education
Gaines earned a Bachelors Degree in political science and a Master of Public Administration from the University of South Carolina. [2]
Political career
South Carolina Comptroller (2023-Present)
Gaines was appointed as acting South Carolina Comptroller General on May 12, 2023. Gaines will serve as acting Comptroller General until the South Carolina General Assembly elects a successor, or until the current term ends in 2027. [3]
