An effort to recall Brian Kemp, a member of the Republican Party, from his elected position as Georgia Secretary of State was launched on October 2, 2017.[1] The recall effort did not go to the ballot because no signatures were submitted to the secretary of state's office before the December 27, 2017, deadline.[2]

Background
The initiative to recall Kemp was first approved for circulation by the office of the Georgia secretary of state on October 2, 2017. On the recall petition form, petitioner John Ziegler outlined his reasons for calling for the recall as:

Recall supporters
John Ziegler filed paperwork against Kemp on behalf of the A Voice for All Georgia committee, citing concerns over hacking of election machines, protection of voter information, and voter registration policies.

Recall paperwork against Secretary of State Kemp was approved on October 2, 2017. Supporters of the recall had until December 27, 2017, to turn in 778,677 signatures to move the recall forward.[5][6]
Election history
2014
Kemp sought re-election to a second term as Georgia Secretary of State in 2014.[7] Kemp ran unopposed for the Republican nomination in the May 20 primary and faced Democrat Doreen Carter in the general election. The general election took place on November 4, 2014.
