Brian Landsberger
Brian Landsberger was a 2012 Republican candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 1st Congressional District of Nevada.
Biography
Brian Landsberger served 20 years as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force. After obtaining his Bachelor of Arts from the U.S. Air Force Academy, Landsberger went on to earn an M.S. at MIT and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.[1] In 2004, he received a research position at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he remained until 2011. He is now the manager of Las Vegas Innovative Product Design.[2]

2012
On his campaign website, Landsberger listed several issues that were designed to help readers obtain an "informed picture of the core beliefs of him" in spite of the fact that the list is not complete. The issues listed:[3]
- Grow the Economy
- Landsberger states, "The federal government can promote innovation through sponsoring research and creating a regulatory environment that does not hinder startup or growing companies. At the same time, the government should not pick winners and losers by allocating free money to certain favored companies."
- Taxes
- Landsberger says that his goal is to, "Revise the tax code to achieve the vision through the goals below in a manner that is transparent, minimally disruptive and allows for long range personal and business planning."
- Federal Debt and Budget Deficit
- Landsberger states, "The government should maintain a sound fiscal policy that generates a surplus during normal economic times that can then be used during difficult economic times. Currently, the federal government engages in unsustainable spending that is dangerous for our future, even in these trying economic times."
- Social Security
- Landsberger has a 5-point plan to fix Social Security: "Congress should take action to maintain the perpetual fiscal viability of the program. The goals should include: (1) Maintain the independent funding, separate form general revenues, (2) Provide benefits that are sufficient for the recipients and consistent with funds available, (3) Obtain the best possible rate of return consistent with risk for the trust fund. (4) Ensure that through fiscal responsibility, the federal government can repay the money borrowed from the Social Security Trust Fund. (5) Scrutinize benefit payouts, in particular disability benefits, to expedite legitimate claims, eliminate unjustified claims, and adjust payouts amount and duration to encourage the worker to return to suitable employment."
- Home Value and Foreclosure Crisis
- Two actions are required to remedy the weakness in the housing market, according to Landsberger: "To set the course for recovery, we present two specific goals: 1) By natural market means, drastically reduce the number of homes going into foreclosure. 2) By eliminating the government imposed barriers to home financing, increase the buyer pool and thus start a recovery of house prices."

Landsberger ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent Nevada's 1st District. He lost to Chris Edwards in the Republican primary on June 12, 2012.[4][5]
