Brian M. Hoffstadt is a judge for Division 5 of the California 2nd District Court of Appeal. He assumed office on November 25, 2024. His current term ends on January 4, 2027.
Hoffstadt was an associate justice of the Second District, Division Two of the California Courts of Appeal. He was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown on June 28, 2014, to replace Kathryn Todd, and was unanimously confirmed by the California Commission on Judicial Appointments on August 28.[1][2] He was retained by voters in November 2014 to a term that expires on January 3, 2027.[3]
Hoffstadt was appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom on September 30, 2024, to replace Laurence Rubin, and was unanimously confirmed by the California Commission on Judicial Appointments on November 25, 2024 to Fifth District Court of Appeal, Division Five.[4][5]
Education
Hoffstadt received his bachelor's degree from California State Polytechnic University Pomona and his J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles.[6]

Hoffstadt was retained to the 2nd District Court of Appeal with 67.8 percent of the vote on November 4, 2014. [8]

Hoffstadt ran for re-election to the superior court in 2012. As an unopposed incumbent, his name did not appear on the ballot. After the primary election, Hoffstadt was automatically re-elected.[9]
