Brian MacKenzie was a judge for the 52nd District Court in Michigan. He served as a judge for the court from 1988 until the end of his last term on January 1, 2015.

MacKenzie ran for re-election to the 52nd District Court.
Primary: He was successful in the primary on August 5, 2014, receiving 36.3 percent of the vote. He competed against Scott W. Powers and Travis M. Reeds.
General: He was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014, after receiving 49.8 percent of the vote. He competed against Travis M. Reeds.  

Education

MacKenzie received his undergraduate degree from Western Michigan University and his J.D. degree from the Wayne State University Law School in 1974.

Career

After graduating from law school, MacKenzie served as an assistant prosecuting attorney for the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. He stayed in this position until 1979, when he became an assistant attorney general in the Michigan Attorney General's Office. In 1988, he was appointed to the 52nd District Court. Between 2008 and 2010, MacKenzie was the American Bar Association/National Highway Traffic Safety Association judicial fellow.

Publications

In 2010, MacKenzie co-edited the book "Michigan Criminal Procedure" published by the Institute for Continuing Legal Education and co-wrote a chapter on sentencing. His most recent article, "Extrajudicial Speech: Judicial Ethics in the New Media Age," was published in the spring 2012 issue of the Reynolds Courts and Media Law Journal.
