“ | What is your political philosophy?
Oklahoma has continually slashed the budget and only passed bandaid legislation to staunch the hemorrhaging of state coffers. Facing a $167 million shortfall for 2019, the state congress did precious little to solve the problem. Brian believes the state can start to heal by implementing revenue raising measures, including reducing the supermajority requirement in the legislature for all tax increases, removing incentives to large corporations while maintaining friendly tax rates for small business owners, and restoring the Gross Production Tax to 7% and then pass legislation to bring it in line with other states. EDUCATION Education is an investment in Oklahoma’s future. It’s no secret that Oklahoma can do better when it comes to education. Brian is passionate about improving education in our state. Every child deserves to have access to the highest quality of education, no matter where they live! And our teachers should have the supplies they need and be rewarded for their commitment to teaching. Brian supports efforts that provide Oklahoma public schools with the resources to facilitate a healthy learning environment; advocate for teacher pay as a living wage commensurate with their expertise and importance in society; and prepare students to be successful citizens of an ever-changing world. CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM Oklahoma's criminal justice system is in desperate need of reform. Our heavy-handed criminal code has created a school-to- prison pipeline that is destroying the lives of thousands of Oklahomans and serves only to line the pockets of corporate prisons with one of the highest incarceration rates in the world. We must modernize our laws to end the failed war on drugs and other policies that target poor Oklahomans and carry on a disgraceful legacy of systemic racism throughout our justice system. Together we can make laws that work for Oklahoma communities and reform our law enforcement agencies and court systems to serve and protect all Oklahomans. HEALTH CARE Healthcare is a human right that must be guaranteed for every Oklahoman. Too many Oklahomans lack adequate mental and physical health care, an often insurmountable obstacle to prosperity for many among the middle class and working poor. Medical diagnosis and treatment is a personal, private issue that should be decided solely by a patient and the medical provider of their choice. It is inexcusable for the government to dictate what a patient and doctor may decide is in that patient's best interest. With your help we can build a healthcare system that cares for everyone, especially the most vulnerable Oklahomans! EQUALITY Brian believes that everyone deserves the chance to live up to his or her God-given potential. He knows that there are barriers standing in the way of that goal, from the enduring scourge of systemic racism to our deeply broken immigration system, to discrimination against people on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity—and he is committed to facing those problems and fixing them. ROADS Population growth, more vehicles, and 10+ years of funding cuts have resulted in 74% of Oklahoma roads and highways to be poor or mediocre. With federal funding to state transportation continuing to decline, Brian plans to establish policy that return the best results in terms of greater mobility. He supports legislation that will invest in roadway redesign and technologies that monitor and improve traffic flow, prioritize projects based on meaningful improvements that provide citizens the greatest value, improve rural transportation for freight, agricultural and energy sectors. He envisions greater economic success with the addition of light rails in large cities and Amtrak expansion between Tulsa and OKC. Is there anything you would like to add? Brian sees a lack of leadership at the state level and knows Tulsa can benefit from someone dedicated to public service with a vision for the future. He understands the value of being self-driven and getting things done. Having a business as a Realtor for 8 years, he has honed skills in creating value propositions, working with budgets, negotiating with multiple parties, and ultimately standing up for others. Join Brian as he works to value the worth of all Oklahomans and to restore and strengthen our public school systems and health care in 2018 and beyond![2] |
