Campaign website
Jaye's campaign website stated the following:
“ |
Reproductive Rights I stand as a pro-choice candidate, it is always a woman's choice, it is her body. I want it known being "pro-choice" doesn't mean I like abortion, it means it isn't my choice, it is a woman's choice. My opinion isn't relevant. I am grateful everyday for my son, and cherish life greatly, but again, it is always a woman's choice, it is her body. Before Roe V. Wade roughly 200 women died a year from illegal abortions, and between 20% to 25% of all pregnancies were aborted. I will never stand in the way of a woman's right to choose what to do with her own body. https://www.npr.org/2019/05/20/725139713/what-abortion-was-like-in-the-u-s-before-roe-v-wade
Economic inequality affects everything from the education of our children, to providing basic needs for our families. I will fight in Congress by supporting, and drafting legislation designed to lift up small businesses, and equalize pay for women, minorities, and all-American citizens. I travel the country where I see people spending $300,000 on comic books, and at conventions in MI people take photos of any comic priced over $10,000. I see real people, I want better jobs in Michigan. I have worked with small business owners for over a decade on top of being an attorney, most of these business owners were based in Michigan. I also worked with business owners based in other states. The business owners in other states had millions in reserves to buy collections, while most of my fellow Michigan business owners were flipping items from $10 to $30. There is such a disparity in Michigan, that I don't even like to tell people honestly. I travel the United States, and I see first hand the economic disparities affecting so many. I want to bring better tax breaks to small business to compete nationally, and try to also bring larger businesses to set up locations in my state offering jobs to all. Popular culture is a billion dollar industry. I would like to see more tax breaks to Hollywood to make movies in Michigan. Also wages amongst those from different backgrounds, and genders must be equalized. I will support and draft legislation to tackle these issues.
I stand against Dark Money, and Citizen's United playing a role in today's political environment. My campaign is grassroots, we should not have certain sources be able to donate millions to bring down a candidate. I will work hard in Washington to bring an end to these type of contributions, and dark money without a reasonable source.
On the 2nd Amendment, my policies are for the safety of all American Citizens. I want regulations and legislation passed that protects Americans from senseless gun violence. I believe military styled assault weapons have no place in our society. On that same token, the Second Amendment was enacted to allow an American citizen to defend themselves and do see the value in law-abiding citizens to own guns, if properly cared for and regulated. I want better background checks for someone to be able to get a gun in America. I fully support Rep. Slotkin's non-intrusive law regarding children's access to guns. We all want a safer America. Recognized as a National Democratic Gun Sense Candidate
Marriage is a fundamental Constitutional Right that must be protected for every American citizen. Love always wins. I am a strong advocate for the LGBTQ community to have the same liberties as every American citizen. A major part of my platform in the State Board of Education was LGBTQ rights. I will fight for every single member of the LGBTQ community. I will support and write legislation designed to protect every member of this community. I will fight to expand rights to everyone no matter their preferences is entitled to all the same rights as everyone else in this Country. We are also at a turning point with the current US Supreme Court appointees from a more conservative background. Justice Barrett has ties to anti LGBTQ groups. I will make sure if Obergefell v. Hodges is overturned, Congress acts fast in drafting legislation protecting every American's constitutional right to Marriage.
I will fight against voter suppression laws in any form or shape. The Voting Rights Act must be protected and end any form of discrimination that stands in the way of anyone voting. Voter Suppression laws are still hidden in legislation drafted by GOP members of Congress, and my years of experience as an attorney will help me determine, and strike down laws intended to target the ability of different groups or individuals the right to vote.
I hope one day America can transition into a single payer healthcare system, until that time I will support the ACA, and fight to lower the Medicare Age to give more in the US access to healthcare. I will work hard in DC on healthcare, fighting to lower prescription drug prices. I believe it is time for a single payer healthcare system in America. I will fight so every American can have health insurance one day. I will fight against insurance companies raising the costs of prescription drugs and denying coverage to people with pre-existing conditions. I will fight to lower the Medicare age in America. I support a single payer healthcare system but will defend the Affordable Care Act until such a system can be put in place. The options proposed by the GOP not only deny individuals access to healthcare they raise costs and premiums. I do think a single payer health care system is possible in America. A single payer healthcare system should be enacted to help all of those without insurance or underinsured in our country. At present, roughly 9 percent of U.S. residents are uninsured, and 26 percent are underinsured—i.e. they are unable to adequately access needed health care because of prohibitively high costs. I pay my own health insurance out of pocket, about $500 a month. I know what it is like to handle high costs for healthcare. I don't think healthcare should be linked to employment at all. I do support the ACA though until a single payer system can be negotiated in our country. I will fight hard to pass a single payer healthcare system in America. A single payer healthcare system would not totally wipe out private insurance, in the UK millions still elect to handle their own insurance with a single payer system.
A top priority in my campaign is protecting the great lakes, and our climate. I will fight to make sure legislation is passed to protect the climate crisis in America. Everyone knows about the dangers of allowing the increase of lead in our drinking Water. I will make sure anyone guilty of corporate polluting suffers consequences. I will also work with experts to make sure climate change is stopped in it's tracks. I fully support the Green New Deal, the fight against utilizing fossil fuels as a source for energy in America to other renewable and sustainable energy sources. The Green New Deal will create new green energy jobs within the District, and the United States. I will work hard to make sure our county continues to stay energy independent.
I will fight so every American can receive a higher education at no cost one day in our country. This legislation is possible, and has been implemented by Governor Whitmer in Michigan, regarding programs centered around community colleges. I believe it is possible to get this passed, without raising taxes on anyone making under $400,000 a year. About 8% of public school funding comes from the Federal Government, I would like to design a program designed to narrow the educational gap in the United States between the highest and lowest income school districts, several programs already exist to allow lower income districts access to federal grants, but my ideas will be premised on several factors to determine if a school district could be entitled to more federal funding. My legislation mostly would deal with additional grants for lower income districts throughout my District, and the United States I feel strongly about Education, and was a past candidate for the State Board of Education. Michigan is currently fifth from the bottom of the country regarding the gap between the wealthiest and poorest school districts in America. I will write legislation designed to help all students achieve academic success. I will also not support school choice, as I feel it is a band aid to fix inequitable funding to public schools. I will fight to bring more money to fund public education. I will support and work on legislation that will give every student in Michigan and in the US a fighting chance at future success. Education is still a top priority in my campaign, and I will work in Washington to narrow one of the worst Educational gaps in Michigan through the allotment of additional Federal funding allocated properly to the poorest districts, not just in Michigan, but throughout the US. I want to work with others in DC to narrow the Educational gaps in the states affected the most by this issue, but also all the states. Michigan is currently fifth from the bottom of the nation in the gap between the lowest and highest income areas regarding Educational attainment. I have ideas on net worth taxation on the wealthiest that would help fund these initiatives, there are other methods, but I believe a net worth tax would hurt the least, and help the most. I want to see legislation passed in the house so public university college tuition is free throughout the United States, and at community colleges throughout our country. I will fight to have these provisions, and legislation discussing these topics passed in America. The premise behind making this legislation a reality is complex but believe it can be accomplished without raising the tax base of anyone making under $400,000 a year. It has been implemented in various programs in Michigan regarding community colleges and will fight to see a community college tuition provision not get knocked out of legislation by the GOP.
As someone that wanted to dedicate his life to law enforcement, I fully acknowledge criminal justice reform is needed in America to reduce systemic racism, and keep our communities safe, by making sure those meant to keep us safe, are safe. There have been many steps taken in the United States to address this issue, but it is an ongoing issue. I spent around 8 months in the process to be a Federal Agent. I did not get enough points in the final interview, this is usually attempted again, but I aged out of the process. I hold anyone in law enforcement to the highest standards, well above a normal citizen. Racial Equality is an issue in policing, we need to bring more attention to the awful disparities affecting resident of color in my district, and throughout the United States. I stand for demilitarization of many police departments, to reduce situations of unnecessary violence. I believe many of the problems with policing in America begins with the hiring practices, if elected I would draft legislation reforming the hiring practices of police officers throughout the United States, establishing federal guidelines every department must follow in the hiring of new officers. I would utilize experts in all fields to accomplish this, and consult various groups throughout America.
I believe Marijuana should be decriminalized at the Federal Level. I will always support legislation that proposes this platform. I support the decriminalization of Marijuana at the national level throughout the United States. I also support HR 3884, which would remove marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act and eliminate criminal penalties for individuals who manufacture, distribute or possess marijuana. It also includes creating a process to remove prior convictions, known as expungement, and conduct sentencing review hearings for federal cannabis offenses.
I will fight to have student loans forgiven in America. I applaud the steps the Biden Administration has taken regarding forgiving student Debt, but I think more can be done, and will push to raise the amount of student loan forgiveness to students throughout America.
I think a $15 minimum wage should be passed in the United States of America. It will increase consumer spending, lower turnover, and spur better productivity, and customer satisfaction to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour at the Federal level. It is said raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour would cost 1.4 million jobs, but research has disproved that. As Bloomberg News summarized it, "[a] wave of new economic research is disproving those arguments about job losses and youth employment." NELP-FPI-Myth-vs-Fact-15-Minimum-Wage-New-York.pdf
I will always support Unions, Collective Bargaining, and Workers' Rights. I grew up surrounded by the UAW and understand how important it is for workers' to be able to collectively bargain with management regarding their wages and working conditions. I will support and fight for legislation that always protects workers' rights to bargain for their own rights in the workplace.
I am the son of an immigrant, and first generation American on my father's side. I will fight for Immigration policies that protect every United States Citizen. My campaign understands the importance of immigration reform in America, being a first generation American on my father's side. My campaign believes in the rights of all human beings, and will protect anyone within our country from legislation designed to negatively impact their lives.
I will work hard in Washington to protect our seniors, and lower the Medicare age in America. I will fight to lower to age to attain Medicare, which is a step in the direction of attaining a single payer healthcare system in our Country. I will oppose the privatization of Social Security, and fight to keep the benefit age the same, or raise the retirement age. I will not allow Medicare to be turned into a voucher program, and fight to allow Medicare the power to lower prescription drug prices.
Government corruption at the local level is a huge problem in America. I will fight hard to make sure those elected to office, are fit to serve in the office they are elected to fill. I would follow Senator Warren's model in stamping out government corruption. When Senator Warren was running for president, she discussed a reform bill known as HR 1. The main planks of Warren’s updated anti-corruption plan are similar to the bill she released last year, but there are several major updates, including banning forced arbitration clauses and class action waivers for all employment, consumer protection, antitrust, and civil rights cases. The most recent update tightens ethics rules for judges, and gives judges less leeway to personally decide whether or not they can recuse themselves on certain cases. H.R. 1 - The For the People Act | Committee on House Administration
I will work hard at the Federal Level to pass legislation that protects our water supply to reduce the use of dangerous chemicals or find alternatives to these chemicals. At the current time 95% of the United States population has PFAS in their system, PFAS are in non-stick pans, raincoats, and various other products. These chemicals break down very slowly and can take longer than four years to pass through the body’s kidney system. PFOS or Perfluorooctane Sulfonic Acid is another chemical category that can take up to four years to pass through the human body. PFOS are in stain-resistant material, fire-fighting foam, and food packaging. These chemicals are dispensed into the environment (and groundwater) in different ways. They can be accidentally brought into the Water Supply, such as from fire-fighting, or intentionally from company pollution. VOCs or volatile organic compounds are a by-product of landfills that hold organic materials for many years. VOCs occur when organic material such as paper, food waste (not animal products such as bones) and other vegetation decompose and are generally not from the area. I will work hard at the Federal Level to make sure legislation is passed that protects our Great Lakes, and Water Supply. I will work to garner support on legislation addressing these issues to reduce the use of dangerous chemicals in our water supply, and continue to press to find alternatives safer for our environment. I know there are ongoing efforts at the Congressional level to fight this battle, and I will always support legislation that reduces harmful effects of corporate negligence.
The United States is currently more energy independent under President Biden, than it ever was under Donald Trump. I will continue to support legislation that keeps the US energy independent. Under President Biden, the U.S. is actually more energy independent, as energy production is increasing and outpacing consumption, and became a larger net energy exporter in 2021. U.S. Energy Information Agency: “Following its historic shift to being a net exporter of petroleum in 2020, the United States continued to export more petroleum (which includes crude oil, refined petroleum products, and other liquids) than it imported in 2021.” Despite Republicans’ lies, Donald Trump was NOT responsible for the trend that led to the U.S. becoming a net energy exporter. The U.S. became the top producer of oil and natural gas before Trump took office. FactCheck.org: “[Trump] suggested, misleadingly, that his administration was responsible for the U.S. becoming the world’s top producer of oil and natural gas. But the U.S. has been No. 1 in the world for natural gas for more than a decade, and tops in petroleum since 2013.” For most of Trump’s term in office, the U.S. consumed more energy than it produced and was reliant on Russian oil. FactCheck.org: “[Trump] also said the U.S. should ‘start producing’ as it did in 2020, rather than ‘buying Russian energy.’ If he was referring to oil, the U.S. was buying from Russia in 2020, and for many years before.” Republicans’ concept of true “energy independence” isn’t possible in today’s global market, and their whole line of attack is a lie. New York Times: “While the United States is now the world’s biggest producer of oil and natural gas, energy prices and supplies still move up and down based on events outside the control of Washington or the American oil industry.”
The digital divide is very real in America, and it is especially damaging in rural communities. As a portion of my district is rural, I have been thinking up solutions to solve the digital divide in communities, where access to broadband is more difficult to attain. At this time there are currently 31% of rural households unable to attain broadband access, I know once elected I will work tirelessly to find solutions to this overwhelming problem in these communities. One solution being implemented in Canada was integrating certain existing satellites with the capabilities to expand broadband to rural homes. https://arxiv.org/abs/2203.08933 I continue to search for more ways to narrow the digital divide in my district, and throughout America.
I was raised by soldiers on my father's side of the family. I care deeply about the future of veterans in America. I will work tirelessly to improve the quality of life, improve veteran's healthcare, and improve their access to education, training, and jobs. Improve and update the V.A.
Provide Veterans with better care.
Improve Veterans access to education, training, and jobs
Ensure all Veterans receive equal treatment
I want to start by saying I support legislation that has been introduced, which decriminalizes anything that reduces violent crime. Why should this be important, because it is a cycle. If we don't decriminalize situations where it includes victimless crimes these laws will target the poor, and minority populations of America, it will cause more harm than good. I am running a campaign that cares about the safety of every human being, not only in my district, but the United States of America. Every human being matters, and I stand firm on my grounds that in Congress, I will work hard to protect the safety of every human.[3] |
