Brian "Ted" Stewart is an Article III federal judge on senior status for the United States District Court for the District of Utah. Stewart joined the court in November 1999 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. Prior to appointment, Stewart was a Chief of Staff to former Utah Governor Mike Leavitt.[1] Stewart assumed senior status on September 1, 2014. He served as the court's chief judge from 2011 until taking senior status.[2]
Early life and education
Born in Logan, Utah, Stewart graduated with a bachelor's degree from Utah State University in 1972 and earned his J.D. from the University of Utah College of Law in 1975.[1]

Judicial career
District of Utah
Stewart was nominated to the United States District Court for the District of Utah by President Bill Clinton on July 27, 1999, to a seat vacated by Thomas Greene. Stewart was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 5, 1999, and received his commission on November 11, 1999.[4] He served as the chief judge of the court from 2011 until 2014. He transitioned to senior status on September 2, 2014.[2]
