Brian Tsuchida is a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington. He was appointed to this position on May 13, 2008, and his current term will expire on May 12, 2032.[1][2][3]

Education

Judge Tsuchida received his B.A. degree from Grinnell College and his J.D. degree from the University of Oregon.[4]

Career

Prior to joining the court, Tsuchida was an assistant federal public defender, felony supervisor with the Defender Association, and an associate at Schroeter, Goldmark and Bender.[2]

On February 8, 2021, Magistrate Judge Brian Tsuchida halted his previous decision to release a protestor from custody who was allegedly involved in the breach of U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. Initially, Tsuchida ruled that the protestor, Ethan Nordean, may be released pending trial on several conditions. However, hours later, he suspended Nordean's release to allow the Justice Department time to appeal. U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell issued an emergency stay later that day.[5]
