Campaign themes

2016

Walton's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Pass Heartbeat Bill: My opponent has turned his back on our unborn children when he co-sponsored the Heartbeat Bill in 2014 but then voted against it, and the failed to fully support the Heartbeat Bill in 2015. We cannot trust him to stand up to Governor Kasich in defending out unborn children.

Change Child Custody Laws: The decline in our society can be attributed to the decline in the family unit (and education). Our society has lost the attributes of personal responsibility, personal accountability, work ethic, and respect; this can all be attributed to the decline in the family unit. We cannot force couples to stay married but we can change the Ohio custody laws to ensure both parents have the opportunity to be involved in their child’s life.

BRAC:

  • The last Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) occurred in 2005 and was a tense time for those associated with Wright-Patterson AFB. According to numerous sources, including Military Times, another BRAC round could come as soon as 2017.
  • My opponent has been visibly absent from this dialogue. An extensive search has yielded no mention from my opponent on the importance of WPAFB to the district nor the devastating impact BRAC would have.
  • Who will you entrust to ensure the state does its part? A career insurance industry insider who doesn’t think PTSD is real? Or someone who has worked at WPAFB as active/reserve military, civil servant, and defense contractor; has deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan for two years with a special operations unit; and lives only two miles from the base?

Medicaid Expansion/Obamacare: The State of Ohio, nor the federal government, can afford to hand out free healthcare to a majority of the Country. However, something does need to be done. The answer lies within regulating the insurance, healthcare, pharmaceutical companies to where they cannot take advantage of average, hardworking citizens. It is unacceptable that insurance companies can limit, deny, cut-off, or otherwise make coverage unaffordable.

Support our Police Officers and First Responders:

  • It seems apparent, with the Ohio Senate passing the bill 30-1 (Senate Bill 252), that there is overwhelming support to take care of our police and first responders. However, my opponent may be allowing his insurance ties to influence his decision on this matter. Because he killed the bill in the House Insurance Committee, it was never allowed to be voted on the House floor.
  • A public official who does not support our police, first responders, or military should not be elected to office; especially in a district where Wright-Patterson AFB is located and we have so many active, reserve, and retired military members.[5]
