Brianna Westbrook is a transgender working-class parent from Phoenix who grew up in poverty. Brianna understands what it's like to struggle every day to make ends meet, to be on the verge of eviction, and to have to fight for her right to exist. She has been working with local and national progressive organizations and organizers to meet the needs of Arizonans for nearly a decade. She has advocated for reproductive justice, workers' rights, LGBTQIA+ equality, and has spoken out against police brutality and mass incarceration. Brianna is running for office because she believes that our government should serve everyone, not just the wealthy and well-connected. She will be a strong advocate in the Arizona State Legislature for working people, LGBTQIA+ people, women, and all those who have been left out and behind by our current system.
Brianna is a strong advocate for progressive policies in Arizona. She has received support from prominent national LGBTQ+ and feminist organizations, including Planned Parenthood, and has been recognized for her unwavering commitment to working people by the Courage to Change PAC, which was founded by US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Brianna is a champion of bold, progressive ideas and a coalition builder who will collaborate with her colleagues to produce tangible results for Arizonans. Her election as State Representative for Legislative District 5 would be a significant step forward in our state's fight for equality and justice.
- I am committed to ensuring everyone can access the reproductive healthcare they need, including contraception and abortion. Healthcare is a human right, and everyone deserves to be able to make decisions about their bodies. I have been endorsed by Planned Parenthood and will continue my fight for reproductive justice as a state representative. I have fought for and will continue to fight for laws protecting a person's right to an abortion because I believe it is an essential part of reproductive justice. Healthcare is a human right, and everyone deserves to be able to make decisions about their own bodies.
- Climate change is the challenge of our time. It is a threat to our economy, our health, and our way of life. We must take action now to address this crisis. As your state representative, I will pledge to protect our public lands and water and advocate for a just transition from fossil fuels toward a more efficient and sustainable energy system. We need an energy system that works for everyone – not just the wealthy and well-connected. I will fight for an energy system that prioritizes renewable sources like wind and solar, creates good-paying jobs, and protects our environment. We can no longer afford to delay action on climate change. We owe it to ourselves and future generations to meet this challenge head-on.
- Ensuring everyone is guaranteed paid family and medical leave, investing in universal pre-k, and advocating for a single-payer healthcare system are moral imperatives that must be addressed if we are to create a more just society. These are not only ethical issues but economic issues as well. The United States is the only major country on earth that does not guarantee paid parental leave, which puts us at a competitive disadvantage.
As someone who has experienced homelessness and eviction, I understand how difficult it is to live without a safe, affordable place. Too many Arizonans are one medical emergency or job loss away from being thrown out on the street, which is unacceptable. We must do everything possible to ensure everyone in our society has a safe home. This begins with government funding for affordable housing initiatives. It also means ensuring that everyone has access to quality healthcare, a livable wage, and the education and training they need to advance. If we fight for economic justice, we can create a society that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few. I've seen firsthand the destructive power of addiction and domestic violence. I've seen friends and loved ones lose their jobs, homes, and families. I've seen people spiral into self-destructive cycles of abuse and addiction. And I've seen the toll this takes on children and families. I believe we should fund programs and services for those struggling with addiction and domestic violence. We must provide resources to help people leave abusive relationships and get treatment. We need housing and job assistance so people can rebuild their lives. And we must ensure that our criminal justice system does not disproportionately punish people experiencing addiction. We can no longer afford to continue on our current path. We must fund programs to assist people in overcoming addiction and living happy, healthy lives.
