Bribery charges reinstated against New Mexico district judge

Las Cruces, New Mexico: Judge Leslie Smith, a retired federal magistrate, issued an order Monday, October 17, reinstating the bribery charges against state District Judge Mike Murphy (New Mexico). Judge Smith issued the unusual ruling because, according to him, his dismissal was in error because it was based on incomplete information from the attorneys in the case. Judge Smith rescheduled the trial to begin on February 6, 2012, and upon issuing the ruling said, "The Court refuses to be led into error because of what I consider to be incomplete briefing."[1]
