Campaign website

Fleming's campaign website stated the following:

An Economy that Works for All Americans

It is important now more than ever that Congress implement solutions to reverse inflation and provide economic relief for working families. The US economy faces many challenges, and here on Long Island, it has become increasingly difficult to make ends meet. We have lived through an unprecedented global pandemic that has wreaked havoc on our economy, at home and across the world. So In Congress, I will promote policies that prevent price gouging by oil companies and supply chain disruptions, to get prices under control. I will promote fair trade to protect consumers and domestic manufacturing and invite American ingenuity in the market, guaranteeing competitiveness on the global stage and reaffirming our commitment to local labor, keeping wages fair for workers and making it easier to do business on Long Island. The cost of higher education and housing are becoming out of reach for ordinary families and must be addressed. The district includes tribal communities that must be supported as they work to expand the economic opportunity, public safety, and public health of their people. I intend to do the tough work of taking on special interests, fighting for good jobs right here on Long Island, and advancing legislation that helps make all our communities more affordable.

Protecting our Democracy and the Right to Vote

In the County Legislature I co-sponsored a small donor public campaign financing program to remove the corrosive influence of big money in politics. In Congress, I will support the “For the People Act” to protect and expand the right to vote, decrease the influence of money in politics, and curb partisan gerrymandering. I also support the expanded John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to protect voters by requiring preclearance before restrictions are set that will affect voting rights. We must push back against the movement to restrict voting rights by improving access to the ballot for all Americans, restoring the Voting Rights Act to its full force, and protecting the voting rights of Native American voters.

Protecting Women’s Reproductive Rights

It is critical that women understand that our basic human rights are under attack. Now more than ever we need champions in Washington who will ensure women’s access to abortion, birth control, and contraceptives. No one should have the ability to prevent a woman from making her own health care decisions. I have been an advocate for women’s reproductive rights, and fought on the frontlines with advocates to protect women from unjust and illegal curtailment of a woman’s right to choose. I will fight to codify the protections of Roe.

A Healthcare System for Everyone

Families across Long Island and America feel the impact of the high cost of healthcare. We must strengthen the Affordable Care Act to achieve the goal of making quality affordable health care universally accessible. We must provide a public option, tackle soaring premiums, end surprise billing and lower prescription drug costs by allowing Medicare to negotiate costs. We must also establish safe staffing standards for nurses, doctors, and patients, so that healthcare workers are protected and all Americans can receive quality care when they need it.

Protecting the Environment and Building a Clean Energy Future

As a lifelong environmentalist, I have made protecting and defending our natural environment a top priority throughout my public service career. Here in Suffolk County, maintaining our environmental resources, and especially water quality, are critical to sound economic policy. This is particularly important in the face of the adverse impacts of climate change, which are being seen throughout the region in rising sea levels, flooding, extreme weather events and loss of critical wetlands and beaches. As a Town Councilwoman and a County Legislator, I have fought to defend our natural environment to combat climate change and guard against its effects. These will continue to be top priorities for me when I am elected to Congress.

Ensuring Clean Water

In the Legislature, I worked to combat the nitrogen pollution that has resulted in brown tide, the collapse of shellfish harvests, and the degradation of our surface and drinking water. In Congress, I will seek support for critically important protections of our aquifer, the sole source of drinking water on Long Island and for forward-looking programs that will reverse surface water pollution, ensuring that incentives such as grants for advanced septic systems are not subject to federal taxes.

Protecting against the Impact of Climate Change

As a coastal community, Long Island is on the front lines of the climate change crisis. In Congress I will work to build on my local successes to expedite development of solar energy solutions while creating green energy jobs and supporting workers in transition to a clean energy future. I will support continued reform of our public transportation system, support investment in electric vehicles and the installation of electric vehicle charging stations. I will move Long Island toward solar and wind energy production and away from fossil fuels, helping to create good-paying jobs, and lowering energy costs for residents.

In addition, I will support proactive capital investment to protect our coastal resources from the impacts of climate change.

In Congress, I will work with members on both sides of the aisle to support the goals of the Paris Climate Accords, ensure that EPA is fully funded, and support policies that are grounded in accepted climate science, as well as to continue to restore environmental protections that were eliminated by the Trump Administration.

Making Our Tax System More Fair

It is critical that Congress reform the tax code to benefit ordinary Americans and not just those at the top. We must reverse giveaways to corporations and the very wealthy created by the 2017 Trump tax bill, to make the process simpler, and more fair for all Americans. In Congress, I will ensure that middle class families get the relief they deserve by fighting to eliminate the cap on State and Local Tax (SALT) deductions and reverse unfair tax breaks for billionaires, to ensure that corporations and the wealthiest Americans pay their fair share. I support efforts to curb the international “race to the bottom” on corporate taxes, to eliminate incentives to ship good American jobs overseas. And I will work to end the policy of taxing septic and environmental grants, and promote incentives for renewable energy programs.

Protecting Social Security & Seniors

Social Security is a direct helpline that retirees have earned. Our country has made the promise to families for many generations that after you’ve worked a lifetime, you should be able to retire with dignity, and we must live up to that promise for generations to come. I will fight against efforts to defund and privatize Social Security so that Americans can live and work with the peace of mind that their Social Security benefits will be there for them in the future.

Standing for Veterans

Those who put service before self in the United States military have secured our nation and the promise of our democracy. We must do more to improve the quality of life for veterans in return. Suffolk County is home to one of the largest veterans' populations in the nation and has the largest veteran's population in New York State. Congress must work to improve our responsiveness to veterans. I will diligently advocate to support improved services at the Northport VA, as well as expanded funding for the VA generally, improve access and quality of care, and provide more mental health counseling and care programs to help veterans dealing with physical and psychological trauma resulting from their service.

National Security and Foreign Policy

We must work to continue to defend our interests abroad. Congress must take action to secure the stability of our civil institutions and protect our allies and friends around the world. I will work to safeguard the security of our nation by ensuring our national intelligence agencies have the necessary capabilities to identify and respond to physical and cyber threats. We must protect the civil liberties of all Americans and protect against extremism and hate crimes. To continue to rebuild America’s interests and place in the international community, it is critically important that Congress work with the President to build ties with countries around the world. We must work cooperatively to combat Climate Change and address public health threats as well as global security threats.

Safe Communities and Curbing Gun Violence

As a former Assistant District Attorney, I believe we all have the right to feel safe in our communities. I was proud to fight for justice for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence, and to protect the integrity of public programs by combatting fraud and abuse. On Long Island, we’ve made important reforms to enhance public safety and ensure equitable policing, with input from all stakeholders working with law enforcement and community advocates. I support implementing these measures, including enhanced mental health services, transparency around traffic stops, and the use of body worn cameras to protect both police officers and the public. I know that the men and women in law enforcement put their own safety on the line to keep us safe. I support full investment in public safety to ensure our first responders are well-trained, well-paid, well-led and able to meet the demands we place on them. As I did as a criminal prosecutor, I believe law enforcement should be focused on serious violent crime, and that we must end the current epidemic of gun violence. We must eliminate the threat of “ghost guns,” close loopholes around background checks and ensure that terrorists, criminals, and domestic abusers can’t acquire guns. I support banning assault weapons, high capacity magazines and bump stocks, and passing "Red Flag" laws to keep weapons out of the hands of those who pose a danger to themselves and others, as well as fully funding important mental health services throughout our communities.

Strengthening our Education System

Our children deserve the highest quality education and our educators must be supported in that mission. Doors open with a great education, employers are attracted to exceptional schools and a talented workforce, and every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential. I believe deeply in the value of public education. I will advocate for and work to strengthen our public education system, including our early childhood programs like Head Start. We must increase access to affordable workforce training and apprenticeship programs for Americans whose path to employment does not require a four-year degree. For those who attend two and four-year colleges, we must ensure that they are not saddled with debt when they graduate and enter the workforce. I will advocate for our nation’s students from the day they enter school to the day they graduate.

Equality for our LGBTQ Community

I am proud that New York stands as a national leader in protecting the rights of our LGBTQ+ community. Because of this leadership, marriage equality is now the law of the land in America. But, the fight for equality is not over. Every day our family members, friends, and co-workers face discrimination in the workforce and their personal lives. We must crack down on discrimination against LGBTQ+ Americans, and to defend the hard-won LGBTQ+ protections that are under assault in Washington. I will support the Equality Act, and look to introduce legislation to effectively defend LGBTQ+ Americans against discrimination.[7]

Expand all | Collapse all

Bridget was first voted into public office when she was elected to the Southampton Town Board in a Special Election in March 2010 and won reelection in 2011 for a four-year term. In 2015, Bridget was elected to the Suffolk County Legislature for the Second Legislative District. She serves as Chair of the Ways and Means Committee, Vice Chair of the Public Safety Committee , and as a member of the Public Works, Veterans and Consumer Affairs, and Environment Parks and Agriculture Committee. Her primary policy focuses are on protecting and preserving our natural environment, public health, and responsible economic development. In the County Legislature, Bridget has helped to secure hundreds of millions of dollars in clean water and infrastructure funding

Bridget is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Hunter College's Special Honor Curriculum and received her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. Bridget worked for almost a decade as an Assistant District Attorney in the office of Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau, where she served as a member of a Trial Bureau and the Sex Crimes Prosecution Unit, and later as the chief of a unit devoted to attacking fraud in public programs. After leaving the D.A.'s office in 2001, she headed up training for lawyers volunteering to help victims of the 9/11 attacks.

A resident of Southampton since 2001, Bridget lives with her husband Bob, their son Jai, and Dune, the family dog.
  • Protecting our Environment has been a priority of Bridget's on the Legislature and it will be in Congress. She's secured millions of funding for clean water infrastructure and coastal protection and she'll fight Trump's environmental cuts in Washington.
  • Ensuring healthcare is affordable and accessible for all will be a priority of Bridget's in Congress. She'll fight to make sure prescription drug prices are under control and that those who aren't covered are able to gain coverage at a price that doesn't break the bank.
  • In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Bridget will ensure a safe and responsible recovery. She believes that the public health crisis and the economic crisis go hand in hand. She worked as a Legislator to deliver PPE and provide relief to business in Suffolk County.
I've always made it my priority to fight for our communities and the issues that matter most to our constituents. And I've worked with partners at all levels of government to see to it that those issues were addressed. But Lee Zeldin has abdicated that responsibility. He's ignored us and he's ignored the issues we care about. That's why I'm running - because this race was too important to sit out and allow Zeldin to get another free pass at another term.

Zeldin has advocated for cuts to the EPA and supported a leader there who denies well-founded climate science, while our dunes breach and our sea levels rise. He voted to take away healthcare from tens of thousands of First District residents, while premiums increase and prescription drug costs go through the roof. And he voted against lifting the cap on the SALT tax deduction, while our taxes go up because of this irresponsible policy enacted by the Trump administration.

I've been a criminal prosecutor and an elected official for the last ten years - first a Southampton Town Councilwoman and now a Suffolk County Legislator. I've won tough fights for my constituents, passed bills on the issues important to them - the environment, taxes, health care - and I'm ready to take my fight to the next level. I'm ready to replace an absentee Congressman and return your voice to Washington.
Trust. If the people who elect their representatives can't trust them then what's the point of representative democracy. I'm going to Congress to serve those that sent me there; not myself or my own political interests.
I am steadfastly focused on serving the people who elect me. It's their interests that I put first every day in public office - on the environment, on health care, and on all issues important to them.
Duty above self. It's important that we remember who voted for us, who sent us there, where we come from, and why we're doing this. Government is about making peoples' lives better and that's why I'm running.
Bridget was an Assistant District Attorney in the Manhattan District Attorney's Office. She served as a member of a Trial Bureau and the Sex Crimes Prosecution Unit, and later as the chief of a unit devoted to attacking fraud in public programs.
I believe we need independent redistricting so that races are competitive and voters have a choice. My district is hyper-competitive every year and that's a good thing. Without competition, legislators become complacent and forget about who sent them there.
I do. I believe that knowing how to legislate is a key to success in a body like the House of Representatives. And I believe relationships formed in local government are hugely beneficial when running for higher office. I can enter the halls of Congress and hit the ground running because of the trust I've built at all levels of government for years.
Our environmental crisis. The threat to our environment is existential. It's been a hallmark of my time in public office - fighting for clean water and coastal protection. And it'll be a priority of mine in Congress. We must roll back Trump's erosion of environmental regulation and we must refund the EPA where he cut it. And the United States needs to rejoin the Paris Climate Accords.
I'd want to serve on the House Committee on Oversight and Reform so I could serve on the Subcommittee on the Environment. And I'd want to serve on the Judiciary because I think our justice system is the hallmark of our democracy and as a former prosecutor I feel I'd add real value there.
