Bristow Marchant was a federal magistrate judge with the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina. He was first appointed to this position in 1992.[1]
Education
Bristow Marchant received his B.A. degree from the College of Charleston in 1977 and his J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1980.[1]
Career
Marchant began his career in 1980 as staff counsel to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee. He then worked for the office of the South Carolina attorney general in 1982 and 1983. He was also assistant chief counsel for the S.C. Department of Highways and Public Transportation for a short time in 1983. He then practiced with the firm of Adams, Quackenbush, Herring & Stuart, P.A. from 1983 until his judicial appointment in 1992. He was a managing partner for his last year at the firm.[1]
