I have a Master's degree in Public Administration specializing in Non-Profit Management. I have used this training as a community volunteer serving on 4 local boards for organizations all focused on promoting education. I am very familiar with decisions regarding policy, procedure, finance and human resources. I have 5 children spanning all grade levels in Kennewick School District. I have kids that have taken hi-cap classes, and others that have needed rudimentary support. While my kids are all in traditional public school, we did homeschool through the district for one year, and my eldest is currently a Running Start student. My kids are all involved in school sports, clubs, and activities. Just within my own home I have broad exposure to what Kennewick Schools has to offer. And while I certainly understand the life of a busy family, I am intentional about making sure I am familiar with the lives of students in our district whose circumstances are different from my own, mainly through my work as a volunteer ELL teacher to recently resettled refugees and immigrants. I am anxious to utilize my education, experience, and vested interest to help make Kennewick School District the Tri-Cities' leading district.

  • Leadership that Listens: Properly balancing the needs of students, parents, and teachers requires listening to all parties and ensuring that you understand the needs and concerns of each group. Listening to each stakeholder improves acceptance and support of decisions that may otherwise seem out of balance, but always, the interest of all students is the most important consideration.
  • Informed Parents: Students perform best when there is a strong partnership between school and home. This partnership is fostered through open and transparent communication regarding all that students encounter while they are away at home.
  • Enhanced Student Engagement: Teachers and administrators report that students are no longer engaged in the classroom. Without engagement there is no true learning. With a slow-to-respond achievement gap, engagement is necessary for recovery. Engagement will improve through minimizing distractions and developing distinguished teachers.

I am most passionate about reviewing, revising, and introducing policy that will strengthen the school district in general, but particularly policy that will improve and strengthen the relationship between the school district and the community. I am anxious to better understand the lack of engagement in the classroom and discover what improvements can be made on a district level that will allow educators to better engage their students, whether that be through mitigating behavior better, providing additional training, or incentives for certification.
