Brittany Karzen has expertly navigated the intersection of public policy and communication for nearly two decades in both the public and private sectors on issues including energy and the environment to public health and underserved communities to law enforcement and victim advocacy.

Moved by the events of 2020, Brittany joined the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office in the Fall of 2020 committed to bridging the gap between law enforcement and the community. She is making this happen by working to expand access to mental health services, secure resources for victims of domestic violence, support at-risk youth through inter-agency collaborations, develop strategic homelessness interventions, support officer wellness initiatives, and more.

Brittany is an innovative problem solver and a committed coalition builder, skills that helped her find success in her previous work with the Utah Department of Health, R&R Partners, and Edison International. Her ability to listen and willingness to step outside her comfort zone has made her a passionate advocate for an array of community-based organizations serving victims of domestic and sexual violence, immigrants, and underserved communities.

Brittany is a resident of South Salt Lake. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and a Master of Arts in mass communication.
  • Increase access to mental health and addiction treatment
  • Invest in education and at-risk youth
  • Improve the environment and economy
My district is home to a jail, youth detention center, homeless shelter, youth group home, and a mental health receiving center. Every day I see where our system currently fails people coming to these facilities. I also see how these facilities impact my community.

I am passionate about addressing mental health and addiction, criminal and juvenile justice, and education through strategic investments and policy change.
