Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Brittany Miles is a dedicated public servant, writer, and mental health advocate running for Bothell City Council. She holds a Bachelor's degree in American Studies from Williams College and currently works as a product owner for the Department of Children, Youth & Families (DCYF), while also writing freelance pieces that shine a light on important social issues.

Brittany is the First Vice President of the League of Women Voters of Seattle-King County and a 2023 nominee for the North Urban Human Services Alliance (NUHSA) Human Services Award. Her public service experience includes serving on the board of the Regional Crisis Response (RCR) Agency and contributing to the Washington State Legislature’s Technology Subcommittee for the 988 suicide prevention hotline (HB1477).

• Affordable housing for all. Support for infill/middle housing.
• Transportation to connect our city and rid it of transit deserts.
• Mental health with regard to crisis care support.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Mental health and gun violence. The links between the two.

What qualities does this office possess that makes it a unique and important part of the state government and legal system?

Local government is what impacts us most. Involvement with council and school board are part and parcel of our lives.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

John Lewis is a personal hero. He's an American hero for his protesting for the rights we enjoy today.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Trust, Transparency, and Candor.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

Speaking and working for the people. Helping the community live better lives.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

Babysitter, I started at 7 years old and kept it up during high school. I also worked at the GAP.

What is something that has been a struggle in your life?

Being a single parent to a teen with early onset schizophrenia.

Do you believe that it's beneficial for holders of this office to have previous experience in government or politics?

No, I believe having been involved in civic engagment would help. But if you have the drive and love of working to create stronger communities, you should run.

What kind of skills or expertise do you believe would be the most helpful for the holders of this office to possess?

I have professional background in developing technology products. I understand the business sides of every choice to be made. Comfortable making tradeoffs.
