My name is Brittnei LaRue, and I’m a parent, community advocate, and financial professional running for the New Hanover County Board of Education. I’m raising my children in our public schools, and like many families, I want schools that are safe, strong, and focused on student success—not politics or division.

I currently work as a financial professional, helping individuals and families make responsible, informed decisions about their resources. That experience shapes how I approach school governance: public dollars should be managed wisely, decisions should be transparent, and leadership should be accountable to the community.

Before launching my platform, I conducted a listening tour across New Hanover County, meeting with parents, educators, staff, and community members to understand their experiences and priorities. Those conversations reinforced my belief that effective leadership starts with listening and collaboration, not top-down decision-making.

I believe strong schools are built through smart use of resources, trust and transparency in governance, and shared partnerships with families and educators. I’m running to help restore confidence in our school system and ensure decisions are guided by data, common sense, and the best interests of students.
  • SMART SCHOOLS: Quality education for every child using resources wisely.
  • TRUST & TRANSPARENCY: Open decisions, clear communication and accountability to our community.
  • SHARED PARTNERSHIPS: Building strong schools through collaboration-where educators, families and the community are respected partners from the start in decisions that impact students.
I am passionate about public policies that strengthen PreK–12 public education through responsible governance, fiscal accountability, and transparency. I believe school boards should focus on student outcomes by supporting strong teachers, safe learning environments, and decisions grounded in data and common sense. I care deeply about how public dollars are spent and believe budgets should be clear, responsible, and directly tied to classroom needs. I am also committed to rebuilding trust between school systems and families through open communication, consistent processes, and respectful collaboration with educators, parents, and community partners.
