I am Brooke Justinger, wife, and mother of two daughters (11) and (8). I am school psychologist and I also have a private practice as an Educational Consultant, Academic Support Specialist. My family have been Cedarburg residents since 2019. I also worked as a school psychologist in the Cedarburg School District for 6 years.

Collaboration and Teamwork: the ability to present a clear vision and mission to ensure the district is always on a path to succeed.
For an every day hero, I would look up to teachers who shaping the future with education.

For a historical hero, I would choose Albert Einstein. His theories of relativity transformed physics and our understanding of the universe.
I don’t have a recommendation for a book/essay/film. My strengths include adaptability and flexible thinking, and I believe this is more important for voters to know about my philosophy when it comes to decision making.

Being so incredibly close to my maternal grandmother, I try everyday to emulate her. She left behind LOVE — the care and devotion that you know you're safe and someone will always be able to take care of you through thick and thin. When you feel loved, you also feel confidence, resiliency, compassion, empathy, understanding, teamwork, etc.
The most terrifying historical event that I'll never forget - that lives in my heart and mind - happened on September 11th, 2011, when our Country's World Trade Center was destroyed by terrorists. I was 19 years old living in my dorm room at the UW-Milwaukee campus.
My first job was working at Woodlake Market in Kohler, WI. I started a person helping with bagging the purchased items, stocking shelves, bringing in the shopping carts from outside, etc. I was then promoted to cashier. I had this job during my high school years (approximately 3 years), and then I left for college.
The Diary of Anne Frank, because both of my grandparents had to go through the Holocaust. Thankfully, they both survived and lived many beautiful years with us. They are currently in heaven right right now, but our family views them as our guardian angels.
"Singing in the Rain"

My daughter tried out for "Singing in the Rain" musical theater act at Webster Middle School and received one of the acting parts - I'm so proud of her!
The job of a school board member is to open channels for communication, and be accountable to decisions that not everyone will like.
Current families and residents in the: City of Cedarburg, Town of Cedarburg, portions of Grafton, Mequon, Jackson (Ozaukee county) and a portion of Washington County.
Too often the word diverse is politicized, and instead of asking what areas need support, board members may not even be informed of areas that could be improved for students.

One example that can help our faculty, staff and students is providing trauma informed care training on a more regular basis. This is one example that could benefit our community as whole.
I would make myself available, and non-judgmental to whomever I am speaking with. I am willing to listen and speak with any group, community member, organization, stakeholder, etc. Given my professional background and previous work within the district, I believe outreach to parents that have students with disabilities and having a voice that understands the stressors students face would be valuable as well.
Good teaching encourages students to ask questions, analyze information, and think critically about topics. Teaching students how to learn and think and not what to think is key.
Teachers that articulate clear learning goals for students and provide transparency on expectations for assignments, participation, and assessments is part of our district’s success. It's important to establish a trusting, respectful environment. Empathy and emotional intelligence play a significant role in a positive teaching environment as well.
I see value in investing more into programs that are related to automation, nursing and other fields that have apprenticeships opportunities.
The job market is not the same today as it was years ago, and I want every student to be able to have the critical thinking skills and ability to navigate job and career opportunities that make sense for them and their goals.
Working within a somewhat limited budget (for all that the schools provide kids!) can be a challenge. While finance is not my background, my familiarity with the district and what has been helpful in the past will be part of what I bring to discussions.
Safe and supportive environments are essential for learning and personal development.

In a few words: Inclusivity matters, and should be embedded in policies related to the safety of students and staff.

Creating and or supporting a school culture where every student is celebrated, feels respected, and valued benefits everyone.
My background is in mental health, and I could go on about this at length.

Having clear and effective crisis management plans in place for emergencies,

Providing ongoing education and training for staff, students, and families on how to recognize, respond to, and prevent safety issues. This includes educating students about conflict resolution, emotional regulation, and how to speak up when they feel unsafe.

My priorities would be to consider whether curriculum revisions reflect not only new academic standards but also are reflective of our current and future students.

Additionally, making sure the board is setting attainable goals for the Superintendent and setting a tone of support for staff and students throughout the district is crucial.

We have a great district, but there are policies that have been changed in the past few years that I would like to see revisited for discussions with new voices at the table.
Students do well in environments that are positive, that have clear guidelines and expectations and where everyone feels welcome.
As someone that worked in buildings during the pandemic, I believe the district did a good job of providing a place where there was a sense of consistency and predictability for students. The district could have been more transparent with communications for both employees and families, and this would be the main area to do differently (if needed) in the future.
Building rapport. Elected representatives have a responsibility not only to the people that voted for them on election day, but to everyone that is affected by their decisions.
Board members can encourage and promote better consistency across the district for the hiring practices of faculty/staff. Clear expectations and explicit direction on what administrator responsibilities are, and are not, may help with retaining talented individuals that care about kids, care about our district and are assets to the community.
Transparency and honesty leads to trust. Accountability to taxpayers and to students’ and their families is essential. We live in an uncertain time, and board members that understand this and can navigate tough decisions are needed.
