Brooke McGowan (Oklahoma)
Brooke McGowan was a 2016 Republican candidate for District 17 of the Oklahoma State Senate.
Issues
On her campaign website, McGowan highlighted the following issues:[1]
Fiscal conservatism
- Excerpt: "Fiscal Conservatism should include a rainy day fund. Legislators need to stop looking for projects to spend budget surplus on, as rainy days will come. It is much more important that Oklahoma be able to respond in times of need without dependence on Federal benevolence or by cutting essential programs."
Education
- Excerpt: "Education should be innovative and responsive to the people. Supporting good schools and current successes is just as important as offering valid school choice and supporting parental freedom to homeschool. Oklahoma ranks low nationally – we need to turn this around. Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results should not be our education policy."
Conservatism
- Excerpt: "States should be the laboratories of democracy. We should have the freedom to enact policies that can be tailored to our diverse needs. Federal handouts come with controlling interest. Oklahomans should have a self sufficient budget to avoid excessive federal overreach."
Responsibility
- Excerpt: "Representative Government should be responsive and responsible to the People. When government does not see the need to inform its citizenry about what drives the decisions that affect you, that is a breakdown of transparency. When government stops listening to you, that is a breakdown of representation. Oklahomans deserve better. Brooke will work to ensure the citizens of District 17 are fully heard and represented."
