2014
Brown's website highlighted the following campaign themes:
“
|
Properly Fund Landfill Closures
- The DEQ is requiring closure of landfills in House District #1 and the state is only partially funding the cost to close our landfills.
- I will work to ensure our communities receive proper funding to comply with this underfunded mandate.
- I will also meet with the community leaders to investigate alternatives to closure of our landfills.
Save the Taxpayers of House District #1 Money
- As a Certified Public Accountant I understand the importance of keeping spending within budget.
- I will only support spending legislation that is absolutely necessary to provide services that are appropriate for government to provide.
- I will meet with local governments and county commissioners to get their input on budgeting issues that will affect House District #1.
Protect Multiple Use and Access to Our Public Lands
- We have an agriculture based economy in House District #1 that is dependent on our stewardship of the land.
- We know how best to manage our public lands for commerce and recreation.
- I will work tirelessly to strengthen the local control of the management of our public lands.
- I will also work to make sure we continue to enjoy access to our public lands.
Keep Local Control to Determine How We Educate Our Students
- A one size fits all approach does not work when we design curriculum for our schools. What works in New York City does not work in our schools in House District #1.
- I will not support any legislation that takes local control away from our school districts, teachers or parents in House District #1.
- I do not support standards that are dictated from the US Department of Education.
- We know the needs of our students are best suited to create our own standards of excellence in education.
Reduce Regulation and Taxes on Businesses
- I am a CPA with my own accounting practice and I am a partner and general manager in two additional businesses.
- I am no stranger to the frustration small business people experience when we try to comply with a laundry list of regulations and reports that must be completed. I will work to reduce this regulatory burden.
- I will also work to keep taxes low on our families and small businesses.
Promote Responsible Economic Development to Strengthen the Viability of Our Communities in House District #1
- A strong economy is vital to the overall well-being of the citizens in House District #1.
- I will work to keep the business that already exist in the district healthy by reducing regulations and keeping taxes low.
- We also need to grow our local economies by creating an environment that is inviting for new businesses.
- I will work to create a business climate that will attract new business to our communities that fits in well with our way of life in House District #1.[2][3]
