Campaign themes

2014

Kennedy's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]

Property Taxes

  • Excerpt: "High property taxes is the top issue here on Long Island. Property taxes are simply too high for the average working family. Because of the high property taxes, young people are leaving at an alarming rate while those on fixed incomes are being forced to relocate. Albany must address this plight of Long Islanders by funding more of the education budget, implementing suitable safety valves and creating real education funding reform. As a State Senator, we can count on Bruce Kennedy to fight for all the families and taxpayers of Long Island."

Jobs

  • Excerpt: "Bruce has the advantage of a career in the private sector plus being the Mayor of an incorporated village. He knows what it takes to run a small business, manage a village, deal with complex budgets (both private and government) and to create jobs. In the State Senate, he will fight to cut bureaucratic red tape and to reduce taxes on small businesses – so they can grow and create jobs here on Long Island. Albany has spent millions of dollars across the state to improve the local economies but Long Island received little of this assistance. Albany must focus on smart growth, creating job opportunities and property tax relief for Long Island families and small businesses."

Public Schools

  • Excerpt: "Bruce believes that he can help make our schools work for students, teachers, parents, and taxpayers. The proper education of our children is imperative and it is unacceptable for big government to shift 80% of education costs onto Long Islanders through property taxes. We owe it to the next generation to appropriately fund our schools which includes athletic programs and arts education."

Equality

  • Excerpt: "Bruce is an advocate of all people. He simply believes that all people deserve the protections provided for in the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. The Equal Protection Clause demands each state to provide equal protection under the law to all people and the Due Process Clause prohibits state and local government officials from depriving persons of life, liberty, or property. As Senator, Bruce will continue to fight for the rights of all Long Islanders standing firm on his position that all people are created equally."
