Bruce Markel III was a judge for the Jackson County Superior Court in Indiana. He was appointed to the position on January 1, 2006, by Governor Mitch Daniels and was elected in November 2008.[1] He was re-elected on November 4, 2014.[2] Markel retired on May 31, 2018.[3]

Education

Markel graduated from Brownstown Central High School in 1965. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University Of North Carolina in 1969. He received his J.D. from the Brandies School of Law at the University of Louisville in 1974.[1]

Career

After earning his undergraduate degree in 1969, Markel was commissioned by the U.S. Navy as an ensign. In 1972 he was ordered to reserve status and was honorably discharged in 1975. After earning his J.D. in 1974, Markel began to practice with his family's law firm in Brownstown, Indiana, where he worked for 31 years. During this time, he periodically served as town attorney for Brownstown and Medora. He also has served as an attorney for the State Bank of Medora and the Brownstown Central Consolidated School Corporation. On January 1, 2006, he was appointed judge of Jackson County Superior Court by Governor Mitch Daniels.[1]
