Bruce Thompson (Georgia)
Bruce Thompson (Republican Party) was the Georgia Commissioner of Labor. He assumed office on January 9, 2023. He left office on November 24, 2024.
Thompson (Republican Party) ran for election for Georgia Commissioner of Labor. He won in the general election on November 8, 2022.
Thompson passed away on November 24, 2024, due to pancreatic cancer.[1]
Biography
Bruce Thompson was born in Big Sandy, Montana, and lived in Cartersville, Georgia.[2][3] Thompson served in the U.S. Army National Guard for six years.[3] He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Reinhardt University in 2021.[4] Thompson's career experience includes owning and working as the CEO of QuoteBurst, Inc., and Bruce Thompson Enterprises.[2][4]

Elections for the Georgia State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election took place on May 20, 2014, with a runoff election taking place where necessary on July 22, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 7, 2014. Incumbent Bruce A. Thompson was unopposed in the Republican primary and was unchallenged in the general election.[9][10][11]
2013
Thompson won election in a special election for Georgia State Senate District 14. The seat was vacant following Sen. Barry Loudermilk's (R) resignation to focus on his Congressional campaign. Thompson faced Christopher G. Nesmith (D), Matt Laughridge (R), Dwight Pullen (R), Dean Sheridan (R) and Nicole Ebbeskotte (R) in the special election, which took place on November 5. As no candidate received more than fifty percent of the vote, the top two vote-getters - Thompson and Laughridge - met in a runoff on December 3, which Thompson won.[12][13][14][15][16]
