I am Bryan Lopez, a lifelong resident of Norwalk with a deep commitment to public service and improving our community. I hold advanced degrees in public administration and dispute resolution, and have a long history of working in public policy and social services for Los Angeles County. My professional experience includes serving seniors, the homeless, and working families, all while navigating complex county programs and ensuring people get the support they need. I’m also a former social services commissioner and youth sports volunteer, where I’ve learned firsthand the value of community engagement and teamwork.
- 1. Addressing Homelessness and Housing: I believe Norwalk must take a comprehensive approach to homelessness by focusing on the root causes, including mental health and substance abuse, alongside increasing affordable housing options
- . Economic Development and Job Creation: We need to support local businesses, attract new investments, and create sustainable jobs for our residents. My experience managing workforce development programs puts me in a unique position to drive this forward.
- . Community Safety and Infrastructure: I am committed to ensuring Norwalk remains a safe place for families, with well-maintained streets, parks, and public facilities. This includes collaborating with public safety officials and advocating for stronger infrastructure development.
I am deeply passionate about addressing homelessness, housing, and mental health support, particularly as it relates to providing sustainable, long-term solutions for vulnerable populations. I also care deeply about economic development that focuses on job creation and supporting small businesses, which are the backbone of our community. Lastly, I am committed to ensuring public safety and improving our city’s infrastructure to enhance the quality of life for all residents in Norwalk.
I look up to leaders like President Franklin D. Roosevelt for his ability to lead the country through the Great Depression and World War II with vision, empathy, and a strong sense of purpose. I admire how he put the needs of the people first and wasn’t afraid to make tough decisions that would benefit future generations.
I would recommend The Public Innovator’s Playbook by William D. Eggers and Shalabh Kumar Singh. It focuses on government innovation and how public leaders can think creatively to solve complex challenges. It reflects my belief in the need for forward-thinking leadership in addressing today’s public policy issues.
An elected official should demonstrate integrity, accountability, and a genuine commitment to public service. It is crucial to lead with transparency, empathy, and a willingness to listen to all members of the community. Leadership is about being a servant to the people, upholding the law, and making decisions that reflect the best interests of all constituents, not just a select few.
I bring integrity, dedication, and a deep sense of accountability to everything I do. My experience working in public administration has taught me the importance of listening to all perspectives, being adaptable, and always focusing on solutions. I am also passionate about community involvement, and I believe my ability to collaborate and connect with others will help drive meaningful progress.
The core responsibilities of an elected official include representing the voice of the community, ensuring that public resources are managed effectively, and driving policies that promote the well-being of all residents. It’s also essential to foster collaboration between city departments, local businesses, and the broader community to ensure progress. Additionally, elected officials must hold themselves accountable to the people and maintain open channels of communication.
I want to leave a legacy of positive change—one that shows how local government can directly improve people’s lives. I hope to be remembered as someone who always prioritized the needs of the community, especially in terms of housing, economic development, and public safety. Most importantly, I want to be remembered for my efforts to bridge divides and create a stronger, more unified Norwalk.
The first major historical event I remember is the 9/11 attacks. I was a teenager at the time, and I recall how it changed the world around us, including how we view security and community. It was a moment that made me realize the importance of leadership and resilience in times of crisis.

My favorite book is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. It’s a powerful story about following your dreams, overcoming challenges, and finding your own path in life. I appreciate its message of perseverance and purpose, which aligns with my own journey in public service.
I would want to be Superman. Not only does he have incredible strength and the ability to help people on a grand scale, but he also embodies the values of justice, integrity, and protecting the community — traits I strive to emulate in my own life.
The last song that got stuck in my head was “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey. It’s an anthem of resilience and hope, which resonates with me as I continue to strive for positive change in our community.
One of the biggest struggles in my life has been balancing the demands of public service with personal commitments. Working in public administration is rewarding but often requires long hours and managing complex issues that can be emotionally and mentally draining. However, I have learned to manage my time more effectively and prioritize both my professional responsibilities and personal life.
Why don’t skeletons fight each other? Because they don’t have the guts!
Financial transparency is the bedrock of trust between a government and its people. Residents deserve to know how public funds are being allocated and that there are checks and balances in place to prevent misuse. I believe that all government activities should be open to public scrutiny, and elected officials should be held accountable for their actions. This fosters trust, ensures efficient use of resources, and helps maintain the integrity of our democratic institutions.
