Candidate Connection

Bryan Bombardier completed Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey. The survey questions appear in bold and are followed by Bombardier's responses.

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1. Decreasing spending in state government by reducing Medicaid expenditures by 15% and cutting the administrative state. We have too many people who work for the state government. Let the private sector take over as many "services" that the state provides as possible. 2. Fight any tax increases that will inevitably be proposed to pay for the huge education spending increase. 3. Reduce the administrative burden on small business by reducing and/or eliminating regulations that hamper business operation and formation.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Medicaid spending is a huge public policy topic that gets me going. I am all for helping those in our society who need temporary help. Medicaid and welfare should not be a lifestyle. Public assistance cannot adequately address the problem of poverty. The bureaucracy of determining who gets assistance is too lenient. Private charity is more apt to help those in poverty to GET OUT OF POVERTY. Private charity is also a better judge of appropriating assistance to those who truly deserve it. As Christians we should help all that we can but we also need to prioritize help to those living life right.

What legacy would you like to leave?

I want my legacy to be that of someone who constantly worked to reduce government over-reach.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

My very first job was as a cashier at a Hardee's restaurant. I learned the value of hard work and how to deal with the general public thanks to that job. I stayed with that job for a couple years in high school until they were closed.

Do you believe that it’s beneficial for state legislators to have previous experience in government or politics?

No. In fact I think that incumbents are part of the problem with our legislative process. Incumbent members of government seem to be more worried about keeping their jobs then with doing what is right for our state. Representatives need to be more worried about their testimony before God and the voting public then with their title and the perceived prestige.

What do you perceive to be your state’s greatest challenges over the next decade?

Cutting state spending with regard to welfare/Medicaid and fighting the ballooning education budget.

Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.

Yes, but we see far too many legislators being a rubber stamp for the powerful few leaders of their party. I would work with other legislators on passing appropriate government spending cuts but I would never vote based on what the party wants.
