Campaign themes
2016
Burns' website highlighted the following themes:[2]
Focus on District 4
- Excerpt: "Establishing a more efficient way to allocate District 4 specific infrastructure funds; we have many roads and sidewalks that meet the criteria to be repaired by Public Works, providing they get the direction and funding. But due to having to wait for approval from the District 4 office before proceeding, they are often not repaired in a timely fashion."
Vision for Louisville
- Excerpt: "Tackle both our heroin epidemic and homeless problem by embracing a “housing first” model of transitional housing. It’s a sad fact that many of our homeless population are struggling with drug problems; “housing first” allows these people to be put into homes where they can be targeted and treated for services. This model has been proven to be effective in both keeping people, but most importantly it allows for an easier reentry into society as productive citizens. This is a compassionate policy for a compassionate city."
Government communication
- Excerpt: "To truly and effectively serve the community I will also push to remove all barriers between your Metro Council office and create a District 4 office that is really and truly reachable. Beginning, we will create a monthly-meeting neighborhood advisory board where residents from all of our neighborhoods, regardless of whether they have an active neighborhood association or not, can come and discuss their issues and concerns. "
