I was born and raised in small-town Indiana, and was the first in my family to attend college. I earned a B.S. in Criminal Justice and Criminology and M.A. in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education, both from Ball State University. I worked for nearly 20 years in higher education, mostly for the University of Wisconsin system, at campuses in Oshkosh, Madison, and Sheboygan. My husband and I relocated to Clermont in 2019 – after visiting the area for several years – and we live near historic downtown and Waterfront Park, across the street from beautiful Lake Minneola. I am a proud father of one son and uncle to 27 nieces and nephews. I was previously elected to the Oshkosh (WI) City Council for two terms, four years, including one year as Deputy Mayor, and also served on several higher education, local government, and not-for-profit boards. While in Clermont, I have been appointed to the city's Code Enforcement Board and currently serve on the Planning & Zoning Commission (chair). I also serve on my HOA board, the South Lake Chamber of Commerce's Public Policy & Economic Development Committee, and on the board of a national not-for-profit providing financial and employment services to those in need. I am a licensed real estate agent, where I specialize working with buyers in residential transactions. I am a life-long Parrothead, political and news junkie, and fan of pretty much all sports. I believe in the Golden Rule and Service over Self.
  • The four pillars of this campaign – The 4 T's:

☆ Transparency – honest, accessible, open government for all. ☆ Trustworthiness – acting with integrity, engaging all citizens. ☆ Temperament – less showmanship, more leadership. ☆ Tax Dollars – responsible, community-focused decision making.

We need leadership for a change. Together, let's create a shared vision for Clermont.
  • Contributing to the Greater Good I’m running for Clermont City Council to help create a stronger, more prosperous, and unified Clermont. We need to hold our leaders accountable to higher standards. I am determined to meet these expectations by building trust and establishing confidence with and maintaining respect for the public, city staff, and my fellow council members. I’ve always been drawn to service and community, and bring an ego-free, collaborative, and cooperative approach to leadership. The process and end result matter more than who came up with the idea or who gets credit. Service over self.
  • Clermont, we can be better! I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of the same old, same old. It’s not just about yes or no, for or against, right or wrong, this side or that side. It’s about Clermont, and what’s in the best interests for the people who live here, work here, pay taxes here, and love this city. We all win when Clermont wins. We’re not seeing this right now, and it doesn't have to be this way. So, whether you live in Wellness Way, Lincoln Park, Heritage Hills, Highland Ranch, historic downtown, along the water, or near one of our major roadways, I will be a Council Member for everyone who calls Clermont home.
☆ Improving access to information (transparency and engagement).

☆ Implementing strategic planning and innovative practices.
☆ Protecting financial investments made in the city (tax dollars).
☆ Enhancing public safety (police and fire).
☆ Investing in infrastructure (roads) and quality of life initiatives (parks and rec).
☆ Preserving our waterways and natural resources.
☆ Focusing on housing affordability, higher wage jobs, vibrant neighborhoods, and a thriving downtown area.
☆ Promoting economic development especially for small and local businesses.

☆ Supporting expanded opportunities for all who call Clermont home.
City Council makes decisions that affect nearly every aspect of the lives of those who live, work, and play here. From water in our faucets, to roadways, to waste collection, to parks and rec. It also includes employment opportunities, housing choices, places to eat and shop, and other quality of life factors. City Council Members might not control or implement all of these things, but they have a role in creating conditions for which residents are safe, successful, healthy, and happy in Clermont, and these are daily "things" that affect everyone, everyday.
Listening to and engaging residents, making sure information and decision-making is inclusive and accessible, and seeking consensus, cooperation, and collaboration. Be honest and upfront with information and decisions, seek expert advice and opinions, be willing to listen more and talk less, and understand that some decisions will disappoint people, but be willing to explain, listen to their concerns, and seek ways to find common ground.
Represent and protect the best interest of the taxpayers of the City of Clermont.
That I lived and served with grace, humility, humor, and passion.
The explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger in 1986. I was in 5th grade, just shy of 11 years old, and we were watching it live in our classroom with the other fifth graders.
Council Members set the budget and property tax rate for the city, they appoint members to city boards and commissions, and they serve as the Community Redevelopment Agency (for the CRA district in historic downtown).
It can be, but is not a prerequisite. I think if a person's heart is in the right place – that the underlying goal is making the lives of all those who live and work in Clermont, better – that matters more than previous experience.
Honestly, one main one: understand what you know, what you think you know, and what you don't know – and how important it is to truly listen to and consider all perspectives before making a decision. Often times there is not a "best decision," but rather "the best possible decision with the information at hand" that is made. Be willing to take calculated chances when appropriate, but also be the first to admit when a mistake is made and how it can be learned from so as to not happen again.
There are currently only five members of the Clermont City Council, and all of them are elected at-large to represent the entire city. So, a city of 50,000+ residents empowers five people to make a lot of very important and critical decisions that affect today and the future. Each seat is one-fifth or 20% of the council vote, so each person can and does make a difference when they cast votes, especially when certain votes require a super-majority vote (4/5).
