Bob Wickers, Sarah Huckabee Sanders

Bryan Sanders is a Republican campaign consultant. As of July 2025, he was married to Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R), making him the first gentleman of Arkansas. Sanders was the media consultant for Mike Huckabee's 2016 presidential campaign.[1] Sanders and his wife founded a consulting company called Second Street Strategies in 2016.[2]

A graduate of Colby College in Maine, he previously worked as a media consultant for Ted Yoho's (R-Fla.) 2012 U.S. House campaign and as the campaign manager for Alabama Governor Robert J. Bentley (R) in 2010.[3]

Biography

Sanders graduated from Colby College with a degree in government. He began his career as a staffer for then-Sen. Sam Brownback (R) in his home state of Kansas and as a press assistant for Brownback's Senate office.[4] In 2008, Sanders volunteered for Mike Huckabee's (R) presidential campaign in Iowa.[4]

Work and activities

The Wickers Group

Sanders joined The Wickers Group, a political media firm, in 2009. For the consulting group, he managed the 2010 gubernatorial campaign for Robert J. Bentley (R).[5] In 2012, as the media consultant for Ted Yoho's campaign, Sanders played a key role. According to David Weigel of Slate, "Ted Yoho, a self-professed Tea Party candidate, ran on goofball charm, corny jokes, and the help of Republican consultant (and Mike Huckabee son-in-law) Brian [sic] Sanders."[6] Sanders' "Pigs" ad for Yoho's campaign was named as one of the best political ads of 2012 by The Washington Post.[7]

In 2016, Sanders signed on as a pollster and media consultant for French Hill's (R) campaign for U.S. House.[8]

On May 7, 2015, Mike Huckabee's presidential campaign announced that Sanders would work as the campaign's media consultant.[1] The Wickers Group, including the campaign's pollster and media consultant Bob Wickers, had a long history with Huckabee to that point. They ran the media for his 2008 presidential campaign, and, according to The Dallas Morning News, Huckabee had consistently endorsed Wickers clients, like Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R) in 2013. The paper reported, "Rival Republicans have noticed that Huckabee has endorsed several candidates, such as Patrick, who have hired San Francisco GOP political consultant Bob Wickers and his firm, The Wickers Group."[9]

Huckabee suspended his presidential campaign on February 1, 2016.[10]

Second Street Strategies

In February 2016, Sanders and his wife, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, founded Second Street Strategies, where Bryan Sanders began serving as president.[11]

First gentleman of Arkansas

Sanders' wife, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, was elected governor of Arkansas in 2022, which made him the first gentleman of Arkansas.[12]
