I was born in Henry Mayo Hospital 29 years ago and have lived in

this city all my life. I have even lived in the same house for all those years. I grew up in the same neighborhood and went through our local school system, going through Old Orchard, McGrath, La Mesa, and Golden Valley. After High School, my brother and I pursued higher education where I majored in History. I dabbled in many different areas of history, ranging from labor history, law history, women’s history, and finally where I settled in Gender and Sexuality history. I have seen US history through its many lenses, and it made me fall in love with it. After finish 4 years of college, I decided to pursue my master’s degree and focus my field even further to LGBTQ+ history. While still a growing historical field, I pioneered a push at CSUN to include LGBTQ+ history in the college curriculum. I managed to get a few of the professor to start including LGBTQ+ history in their classes so that we could paint a fuller picture of what history is supposed to be, a story of struggle and strife and how we can overcome these obstacles. When I finished my master’s programs, I applied to work at the SCV LGBTQ Center. For the last 2 and a half years, I served as the secretary and have recently been voted in as president, which I feel honored in the trust the board has given me. My work through my advocacy,

has led me to seek greater change in my community.
  • I am committed to expanding affordable housing in Santa Clarita by supporting a diverse range of housing options, including apartments and multi-family units, not just single-family homes. I will advocate for smart development policies that ensure housing is accessible to all income levels, fostering a more inclusive community.
  • I am committed to closing the Chiquita Canyon Landfill to protect the health of residents and the environment. I will advocate for comprehensive support for affected residents and businesses, ensuring they receive necessary medical care and compensation. I will also work to hold accountable those responsible for the toxic emissions, pushing for stringent measures to prevent future harm.
  • I will advocate for the establishment of more clinics in Santa Clarita to ensure residents have greater access to essential medical care. I am committed to improving healthcare availability, making it easier for everyone to receive the services they need to stay healthy and thrive in our community.
I am passionate about building affordable housing, cleaning up and maintaining the environment, and protection of our schools and libraries from the looming books bans being proposed by extremists in our communities.
Being a historian, I have many people I look up to, but one of the most important for me is Bayard Rustin. Not only did he have to overcome prejudice of his race, but that of his sexuality. Being the first ever LGBTQ candidate for the Santa Clarita City Council, I hope to follow in his footsteps and overcome a huge milestone that no one has broken in the city.
Three principles that are most important are integrity, honesty, and caring. When a city council puts a party line over that of the needs of its citizens, they need to be held accountable to the people.
Their core responsibility is that of the people. When elected officials abandon their reasonability to tout a party line, they break their oath of office. They need to listen to the community, speak with as many people as possible, and bring about a greater forum so that everyone can be included in the process. Everyone has a voice that matters, and everyone has a right to have their side heard.
I would love to leave the legacy of not only being the first LGBTQ candidate, but also the first democrat. I want to bring a community focused approach to the city council as many working class people like myself have been excluded from participating in the political process in Santa Clarita.
