I am passionate about helping our community and believe that I am more representative of the average citizen than current officials and therefore can relate more closely with constituents.
- Build community
- Empower farmers
- Keep Elizabethtown clean and beautiful
My passion is sustainability and all things nature; with a more realistic approach than most tree huggers. The office worker is just as connected to the land as the farmer. We all eat food, we all drink water, and we all breath air. A healthy community allows those necessities to thrive while helping out the bottom line.
My very first job was restoring antique furniture. My first "real" job was in fast food where I say I definitely learned patience!
The election of Barak Obama, I was 6 years old.
I look up to John Muir for his commitment to environmental preservation. His passion for nature inspires me, and I aspire to follow his example by championing economically sound sustainable practices and protecting our environment for the benefit of our community and for the younger generations future.
Residents' input is vital for community success. I'm committed to listening to the peoples voice in city hall meetings and face-to-face discussions whenever possible to ensure what goes on is for the good of the community.
I am dedicated to enhancing our community's infrastructure with a focus on preserving its rich history. To address congestion I plan to increase the cities cycling infrastructure, this will receive groans from many but you must remember a cyclist on a bike lane is one less car that's blocking your morning commute. with dedicated lanes for cycling it also allows bike commuters to be off the roads where they block drivers, we don't like that we're blocking cars either!!
I would like to see crime reduced by addressing the root causes instead of only dealing with the aftermath. By forming closer communities is allows youth to grow up in a nurturing environment and by focusing on rehabilitation you avoid repeat offenders. For crimes that are taking place currently though, if you can't do the time don't do the crime. Bad upbringing only explains why a crime was committed, it does not excuse it.
I believe that downtown is currently healthy but I also believe that by having large corporations as the main attractions in the downtown area we are making ourselves less unique and spoiling what makes this town special. By prioritizing local stores we allow money to stay within the community instead of being shipped of to enhance the economy of far away foreign countries
I do not have a medical degree so would have deferred to both community sentiment as well as expert recommendation.
I believe that the costs associated with an unhealthy environment far exceeds the cost of keeping it clean in the first place. An example would be the stream that is near the square, I have watched as it became more and more polluted, these small streams feed into the rivers we rely upon for drinking water. By polluting these streams we increase the cost of water treatment; which, as usual, is felt most by the families in the area.
A transparent government is a better government. Local governments do not need to worry about things such as military secrets so should therefore be very open to the citizens. It should not even require the FOIA, information should be spread far and wide willingly.
No, career politicians are corrupt politicians. After years in government they loose touch from what it is like to be a normal person.
communication, communication, communication. Doubly so for local government.
My degree in Sustainability, while at first seems irrelevant, has made me better prepared to lead than any other candidate in the race. Sustainability boils down to smart resource management to allow the most economic benefit for as many people in the community as possible
Money, not from a lack of management skills but a general lack of it. Citizens are making less and less and everything is costing more and more
