I was born and raised in Santa Ana. I am the proud queer son of Oaxaqueño immigrants. I attended local public schools and became the first person in my family to graduate from high school and college. I graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 2017, where I majored in Political Science and Public Policy.

During my time at UC Berkeley, I served two terms as a Police Review Commissioner for the City of Berkeley and sat on disciplinary boards of inquiry on allegations of misconduct by police officers. On campus, I served as a student Senator, where I advocated and supported efforts to build affordable housing, provide better wages and working conditions for campus workers, and push funding towards underrepresented students.

After graduating from UC Berkeley, I returned to Santa Ana and got involved in local issues around housing, immigration, and police accountability. I fought to protect tenants from being evicted amidst the pandemic, advocated to pass a historic California Police Decertification Bill (SB 2), and helped lead the Santa Ana People's Budget Platform in 2020 to push for investment in youth. I currently serves as Policy Director for Chispa, a political home for young Latinos
I am passionate about advocating for healthcare. Healthcare is a human right, and COVID showed us that our healthcare system is broken. Housing, California has a housing crisis - we need to build affordable and social housing that is affordable for all. Lastly, we need to invest in our communities and young people to build a better quality of life for all.
I look up to leaders like Bernie Sanders, Martin Luther King Jr. They both provided a platform for people to speak about the injustices and the changes we need to make to create a better world. I hope to provide a platform for people to speak their truth.
Integrity (to their values and platforms) Communicative (build community relationships with residents, have an open door policy) Transparency (open communication and informing residents about current policy/programs/grants)
The core responsibilities for someone elected to this office is to create state policies that better the lives of the community. In addition, to vote for a budget that reflects the values of our communities.
I would like to leave a legacy of fighting for change, and laying the foundation for progressive change to emerge in Orange County and California. I want to inspire other young Latinos, lgbtqia, and newcomers to run for office.
My first job was a summer paid internship at a law firm during high school.
Accepting my LGBTQI identity, being a first generation Mexican-American, overcoming my speech impediment when speaking English & Spanish.
The governor and the state legislature should work together to pass policies and a budget that reflects the values of our communities. There should be a close relationship between the two parties to ensure governance is just, accountable, and transparent.
Our housing and climate crisis serve as the greatest challenge over the next decade. We need to ensure that we solve the housing crisis before our working class communities are pushed out. We need to address the climate change crisis to ensure our planet is protected and still here in the next decade.
Yes, I have nearly 10 years of experience in government and politics. I have sat on city commissions, and worked with elected officials from city council, to the county supervisor, to the state legislature.
Yes, it is crucial to build relationships with other legislators to pass good policies and budget. Building relationships and allies is key towards good governance.
I favor being able to bring new voices and communities to the district, and giving fair representation for underrepresented communities.
Committee of Budget, Public Safety, Housing and Community Development
For many residents I have talked to, they told me I am the first person who has ever knocked on their door. I found a resident whose father has the same name "Bulmaro," a rare name. So many young people share similar stories like mine , struggling for access to housing and resources to continue living in the district. Representation matters, and people want to be seen and heard.
I believe compromise is a balanced of both for policymaking, but compromise should not be at the expense of your values and beliefs.
