I'm Charles Conrad Schesventer, a young political nerd who likes to advocate for important city, state, and national issues.
  • VB has been negligent on flooding - use state and federal dollars to speed up fixing it and lobby to clear red tape.
  • Efficient public transit is needed in VB - use three leveled funding to make our system Rapid Bus Transit.
  • Government has certain things it should provide, but not certain things it should regulate: AirBNB, Food Trucks, e Scooters, and other things require less regulation of the citizens.
A better healthcare system. An eliminated drug war. Better equity, and equality, of our citizens from the government on down.
It can serve as a voice of 460 thousand VB citizens (we're Virginia's largest city) in Richmond. Especially about flooding and sea level rise concerns. But we need to remove Virginia's "Dillon Rules" system and VB can advocate for that.
My Dad, Mom, and Brothers are the lives I look the most toward. Politically, I look up to politicians like John Moss and Jessica Abbott (locally). Nick Feitas and Jennifer Carrol Foy (Virginia). And Justin Amash, and Bernie Sanders (nationally).
Free to Choose, by Milton Friedman, is quite a good bedrock. I've gone up from there, swayed some opinions from libertarians to the left. But I admit my changing. My openness denotes I might change going forward if the information leads me to.
Transparency in what happens to them. The willingness to share is important. Tolerance is key, it may even shape philosophy on policy based on your ability to see someone as equal to another. And appreciation for the role of government and the existence of individual rights.
Openness. Cordiality. Willingness to spot a public problem, on varying topics, and fix it even with outside the city lobbying efforts by me - the officeholder.
An open ear to all they serve. We all have a belief in what we want government to do, but as (say a councilperson) politician you must be prepared to have your constituents say something else is more important - and then you must represent their view.
One of public trust. Public enjoyment. The public notoriously doesn't like politics because of politicians. I want them to think differently about politicians.
An overcast sky in Orlando that I have associated with Hurricane Andrew, but due to the size of Andrew I am not sure that was the storm.
Food Lion bagger. Less than four years.
Jurassic Park by Michael Chricton. It brought me back for multiple re reads, mentally getting into it is as rewarding as watching the movie.
Create a mix of the speed of the Flash, and the strength and internal character of Captain America.
I've Been Waiting, Lil Peep, iLoveMakonnen, Fall Out Boy.
Getting a career that is rewarding. My interests are politics and sports, hence I went to ODU to study both. Those are exceptionally difficult to get into even with my degrees and volunteer experience. So if I cannot get a door opened by knocking, I will kick it down by being a people's representative.
In my dealings with the populace they already know a great deal. It's a coequal role with 10 other people, we vote on city budgets and regulations for development.
Yes. I say this as someone who hasn't held office, like most things in life experience is important. I bring a desire for advocacy on certain public policy matters, which I'll combine with experience down the line.
Good writing skills. History speaking with politicians on federal, state, and city levels. And the ability to sit well in any crowd of concerned citizens, from Democrats to Independents to Republicans, and engage the topics freely.
