C. Jeffrey Kinder was a judge on the Appeals Court in Massachusetts. On October 1, 2015, Governor Charlie Baker (R) nominated Kinder to the Massachusetts Appeals Court. The Governor's Council approved the nomination on November 18, and he was sworn in on December 18.[1][2][3] Kinder retired from the Appeals Court in December 2022.[4]

Education

Kinder received his undergraduate degree in political science from Kenyon College in 1976 and his J.D. from the University of Toledo College of Law in 1981.[5]

Career

Before he was appointed to the appeals court, Kinder was an associate justice for the Massachusetts Superior Courts.[6] He was nominated to the court by former Governor Mitt Romney (R) in 2006.[5][7] Kinder served as an assistant city attorney for the city of Aurora, Colorado, and also as a deputy district attorney and assistant U.S. attorney for the state. After moving to Massachusetts, he served as an assistant U.S. attorney, then went into private practice, specializing in civil and criminal proceedings.[5] Kinder was appointed to the superior court in 2006, and in 2011 he became the regional administrative justice for Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden, and Hampshire Counties.[1]

Federal recommendation

Kinder was recommended for a federal judgeship by U.S. Senators John F. Kerry and Scott P. Brown on August 5, 2011. The recommendation was to fill a vacancy on the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts left by Senior Judge Michael Ponsor.[8] In March 2013, Kinder withdrew his name from consideration.[9]
