C. Jo Peterson is a judge for the 5th County Court Judicial District in Nebraska. She was appointed by Governor Dave Heineman (R) in March 2013.[1] Peterson was retained in a retention election on November 8, 2016.
Education
Peterson earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, going on to receive her J.D. from the University of Nebraska College of Law.[1]
Career
Peterson is a former deputy county attorney for Saunders and Hamilton counties, and also practicing privately with a focus on general law. She was previously deputy county attorney for Butler, Polk and Platte counties and served for eight years as Seward County attorney.[1]

Nebraska held retention elections for local judicial offices on November 8, 2016. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run for retention was August 1, 2016.[2] C. Jo Peterson was retained in the 5th County Court Judicial District, Nebraska, Seat 2 election with 73.21 percent of the vote. [3]

Judges of the Nebraska County Courts are each appointed to six-year terms.[4] Judges are re-elected in retention elections. To serve on this court, a judge must be a U.S. citizen, a district resident, 30 years of age or older, and a member of the state bar. They must also have five years of experience in state practice.[5]
