Cabot Public School District is located in Lonoke County in central Arkansas. The county seat is Lonoke. Lonoke County was home to 71,557 residents in 2014, according to the United States Census Bureau.[3] Cabot Public School District was the seventh-largest school district in Arkansas, serving 10,423 students during the 2012-2013 school year.[4]

Demographics

Lonoke County underperformed in comparison to the rest of Arkansas in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 17.9 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 19.8 percent for Arkansas as a whole. The Cabot school board consists of seven members elected to five-year terms by geographic electoral districts. There was no primary election, and the general election was held on September 15, 2015. One seat was on the ballot in 2015.[6]

Individuals interested in running for the board began filing for candidacy on June 7, 2015. The filing deadline for the 2015 general election was July 7, 2015. Each candidate had to file a petition of candidacy, political practices pledge, affidavit of eligibility and nomination petitions with at least 20 valid signatures to the county clerk.[7]
